Furthermore, the greater portion of the short fibers are shaken out. As the waste reaches the delivery end, the feed is again slightly slowed up due to the more or less flattened portion of the propeller and the waste is given a greater tumbling action to thorougl1- ly shake out all the short ends before it is delivered at the delivery end. To further assist in the flutling of the waste during its tumbling action while being propelled through the cylinder 13 by the propeller, the propeller slats are provided on their rear faces, with picker lingers 17, upon which the waste drops during its tumbling movement and over which the waste is dragged in its movement.
At the receiving end of the cylinder 13 there is provided an are shaped trough 18 opened at its top and arranged beneath the receiving end of the propeller to prevent the dropping of the waste out of the propeller prior to its entry into the cylinder 13.
The foreign matter, lint, etc, as the waste is propelled through the cylinder 13, drops through the openings in the cylinder and through the bottom opening 19 to the floor. The side deflectors 4t deflect this material so that it will fall in. a heap toward the center of the machine and in order to obtain ready access to the cylinder. These sides 4-, as above described, are made removable. V
In some instances, i may be desired to deliver a current or blast of air to the waste as it is being tumbled and to this end, I provide air pipes 20 connected with a suitable source of compressed air by the pipe 21. These air pipes deliver air into the top of the casing 1 so that, the blast of air will assist in flutling the Waste and also assist in drying the same in event the waste is damp or wet. I
The cylinder 13 is rotated by means of a suitable chain drive 22 I from an electric motor or other source of power 23 and between the chain drive 22 and the shaft 9 of the cylinder 13, there is provided a friction clutch 24 which, in event the material be comes jammed will allow the motor to rotate without rotating the shaft 9.
I claim as my invention the following:
1. Ina device of the character described, the combination with a rotating tor-ominous cylinder, of a rotatable propeller mounted within said cylinder to rotatetherewith and compr sing a plurality of helically disposed slats arranged side by side.
2. In a device of the character desvibed, the combination with a rotatable foraminous cylinder, of a propeller rota ably mounted and extending through said cylinder CORP prising a plurality of lielically disposed slats arranged side by side, the slats of said propeller being provided with picker lingers.

i. In a device of the character described, the combination with a foraminous cylinder of a rotatable propeller mounted therein having a plurality of blades, each blade coinprising substantially helically disposed slatted member, the ends of each blade projecting beyond each end of said cylinder.
5. In a device of the character described, the combination with a toraminous cylinder, of a rotatable propeller mounted therein hava plurality of blades, each blade of which comprises a plurality of helically di posed slats arranged side by side, the pitch of said lielices at the receiving end being greater than the intermediate portion and the pitch Le delivery end being less than the rc a t ceiving portion.
(3. in a device of the character described, the combination with a rotatable lo iminous cylinder of a propeller mounted wi i and rotatable with said cylinder, comprising a plurality of blades each oi which comprises a plurality of helically disposed slats arran d c ide by side, and a cover inclosing the upper portion of said cylinder.

8. In a device of the character described, the combination with a rotatable foraminous cylinder, of a plurality of substantially heli cally disposed foraminous propellers arranged within said cylinder and rotatable therewith.
