7 My invention,relatesIto-improvements in .tank flanges. i f 1 Q a v The objects of my invention are to provide a device of the classdescribed which will be 5 new, novel, eflicient and'of utility; that is simple, strong, durable and which will be lasting and will not easily get out of order; which will be applicable for use on both woodand metal tanks; which will be useful on all kinds "10 of tanks; which will prevent oil and the like fromoozing out from around the flange connection and leaking. I
The clevi'ces'in use at the present time forthe,
purposes for which my'invention is intended J1 are not practicalnor efficient they-permit oil or other liquid to seep out'from aroundthe connection tothe tank or receptacle and run down the side of the tank and thus in the ca se of oil gets gradually worse the longer such seepage continues. In case of use for water I filledtanks, the seepage accentuates the rusting of the parts of the flange connection, and of the parts of thertank there' surrounding,
and either causes theleakage to increase, or
- '5 encrusts the parts together so that they, cannot be'loosened without opening up a larger hole around the flangefconnection than is in- ,tended.
a with-my nvaaan' an or these objectiQns are obviated;
With. these and other object s in view, as
a will more fully 'appear my invention consists in the construction, novel features, and combi- M nation of parts hereinafterfmorer fully do scribed, pointed out inthe claims hereto-appended, and illustrated inthe-accompanying one sheet drawings, of which, on
Figurel is a sectional viewqo-f theflange v "bosses with'perforations; Fig. 31s a perspective view "or the body of the flange showing the spoolneck integral therewith; Fig. 4is a as perspectiveview of awa'sher;" F ig.- 5 is an partsin alljthe figures.
-'duction 'therein'of a pipe or hosella It will the understood that rubber'fiber or other suit-: able, gaskets may be used in connection with shown attached to a wall;Fig. 2 is a perspecf -=tive view of the cap holding plate showmg ,stood that the drawings are'to be interpreted as being illustrative and notrestrictive. I
; One embodiment of my inventionis shown 1 as follows: The spool necked body luof said 5 flange is preferably icircular inform at its base and has a roughed. or corrugated upper 1 surface -2 for rigidly holding a gasket ,3. againstftheinside surface of a tank wall 4:;
said body has asquare cornered ortion 5 adjacentits-center adapted'to fit lntoaf square openingffi infsaid tank wall for 'preventing the turning of said flange; Above said square I shouldered portion I provide a hollow. cylin-r drical spool7 having a rectangularly shaped 7d head. 8 and having a bore 9 therewithin ex tending from its/upper topsurfa'ce to the a lower surface of saidbase of'said flange 1 and having threads 10 throughout for the introthis flange. I also provide washers 12 having a perforation 13 ,inits center, washer .12 is adaptedto fit'ove'r the spool-necked v portion of said lfiange and to besea'ted' on the outside of said tank wall 4 and for seating on its outer face side a plurality ,of set screws 19 hereinafter described. It" will be. noted I i that the spool-necked'portion extends beyond 35 I the surface of the top of'said base portion of -r said flange. I also provide cap holding plate 14 havinga plurality of bosses "15 surrounding" perforations 17 therethrough; These bosses and perforations may be increased in'oo' number as desired owing-to the largeness and the strength resisting quality required of the flange. Said cap holding plate has a rectangularly shaped opening 17 in its central portion, the top portion of said rectangularly shaped opening 17 has recesses 18 on two of its opposite sides therein for seating the square shouldered portion of the head 8 bosses 15 and for sea-ting at 20 on the top surface of said washers 12. The number of these set-screws, will correspond to. the number of bosses and perforations used in the respective flanges.
The application of my invention can be seen as applied on tank 22 in Fig. 5; It will be understood that when the flange is to be applied to a circularly formed-tank such, as is shown at 22 that the upper corrugated surjface 2 0i said flange I of the 'lowersurface 21 of said'washer 12 will preferably bemadeto "conform with the inner and outer surfaces,
respectively, of the *Wall of the tank l. The device as shown-in Fig. 1 isshown applied to the straight-surface instead ofthe cylindrical surfaced tank; It will also be understoodthat my device can be applied to wooden as well as'metallictan'ks, either in'the'cylin- 'dri'cal? form-"or" in the square or rectangular forms! 5 It war beo'bserved by those familiar with the art towhich my invention pertains that upon the introducing of the" :base of the flange 1 from the inside surfaceof the tank the neck portion 7: will be inserted through square opening 6 through said: wall'fiof said tank, and t a suitable. gasket will be introduced on the upper roughed or corrugated surface portion 2 of the base of said flange 1,,a-nd between'it and the inside surfaceof: the tanl wall; that the square necked portion Yu against the under shoul shouldered" portion 5 will thenrest in said square opening 6' through the wall ofp'said tank, and-washer12 will. be placed surroundtheyspool 7 and against the outer'surface o s aid wall 4:; the cap holding platel t will then be placed surrounding said} spoolder of the head '8- -,Before being tightened i said plate willbe given aquar ter turn 1 after, the head 8' has been placed through the i rectangularly shaped opening and two sides of saidheda 8 Willthenb seated inrrsaid "onsaid washer; said Plate, said screw bolts cesses 18 thereby preventing the turning of said head 8 in said top plate. 14 and thereby v holdi ng the device securely. and rigidly in ;.position[ Set-screws 19'wi-l-l then be intro- I ducedathrough' the perforations 16 in; said bosses 15 insaid cap holding plate 14 and their lower-ends seated as at QO on the-up persurfaceofwasherHL These sc'rew-boltson set-screws 19 will be then tightened and the said tank wall.-
will permit a connection with said pipe 11 r or suitable outlet'pipes as desired for draining said tank or tapping it for other purposes; and no part of the liquid Within said tank will be permitted to touch" any part of the flange whenso installed except the inner surface of the base of said flange 1 and the threaded boreinto which is introduced pipellthrough spool neck 7.
Having thus described my invention what is claimed and desired to be secured by LettersPatentis:
