Description
June 9, 1931. 1 GlOlOSA I LSS] FIREWORKS Filed Sept. 9, 1930 Y Patented .une 9, 193
JOSEPH GIOIOSA, OF MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS FIREWOR-KS Application filed September 9, 1930. Serial No. 480,658.
This invention relates to an improvement in fireworks and particularly to a means whereby firework display units may be clamped to a frame and firmly held thereon while being discharged.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts set forth Vin t-he following specification and particularly as pointed out in the claim thereof.
Referring to the drawings;--
Fig. 1 is a front elevation ofV a firework embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail sectional elevation taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 5 is a rotary frame of a type commonly employed in the manufacture of set piece types of fireworks, the frame illustrated being constructed in the form of a wheel. Fastened to the periphery of the rotary frame 5 are a plurality of U-shaped clamps 6, each clamp comprising two arms 7 having prongs 8 projecting inwardly therefrom. Each clamp 6 is firmly secured to the frame 5 by means of a rivet 9 which extends through the clamp and frame and is riveted thereto in a well-known manner. The rivet 9 holds the clamp 6 to the frame 5 with suf- 30 ficient friction to hold said clamp firmly in position, nevertheless it is evident that the clamp may be rotated upon the rivet against the action of the friction if it is so desired.
Although the drawing illustrates the '35 clamps 6 as being secured to the'outer pe-l riphery of the rotary frame 5, it is evident that these clamps may be secured to the sides of said frame Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In using the device a firework display unit 10, which, for example, may be a unit emitting a colored flame, is inserted between the arms 7 of the clamp 'and pushed inwardly therebetween until it is engaged by the prongs 8. The arms 7 are made of spring metal so that they will yield sufficiently yto allow the firework unit to be inserted therebetween,
' but will firmly hold said unit in position after y it is inserted. p The various units l0 are connected together in a well-known manner by sections of fuse 1l and one of said units is lighted by igniting a fuse 12 which hangs loosely therefrom. K
It is evident that many different effects may be obtained by changing the positions of the various clamps 6 upon the frame 5, this change of position being accomplished by rotating the clamps upon their respective rivets.
I claim: A firework having, in combination, a frame, a clamp fast thereto and embodying a pair of oppositely disposed spring arms adapted to clamp a fireworkdisplay unit therebetween, and a prong projecting from one of said arms toward the other. V
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand. Y
JOSEPH GIOIOSA. p
