Description

June 2, 1931. J P KQLLA 1,807,988
SMOKE BAFFLE FOR FURNACES Filed Jan. 9, 1930 INVENTOR A TTORNE m Patented June 2, 1931 umrso STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN P. KOLLA, OF HOLLAND, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR T0 HOLLAND FURNACE COMPANY, OF HOLLAND, .IHIGHIGAN SMOKE BAFFLE FOR FURNACES Application filed January 9, 1930. Serial No. 419,484.
The object of this invention is to provide an im aroved construction of smoke baffle plate for retainin smoke and dust in the furnace during the fuel feeding operation.
A structure showing an embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is the combustion chamber of a hot air furnace witn the feed section embodying my invention in perspective, the feed door and other parts of the furnace being omitted.
2 is an enlarged detail vertical section on line 22 of Fig. 1, showing details of one of the hinge structures for the smoke baflie.
The parts will be identified by their numerals of reference which are the same in all the views.
1 is the combustion chamber of a hot air furnace. 2 is th feed section thereof. 3 is an improved baffle plate suspended back of the integral cross rib 21 at the top of said feed section.
The baffle plate is perforated at 31 and is held in place by eye-bolt 4, the recurved end of which extends into recesses 22 in the cross rib 21. Cross rib 21 is extended downwardly into strengthening cars 23 at each end.
It will be observed that this baiile plate, if injured, can be very readily removed and a new one substituted. It is very secure when installed and has the utmost freedom of movem nt. The perforated part turns on the eye-bolt so that it yields readily if struck by the shovel or its contents when charging the furnace. At the same time the plate drops instantly into the baifiing position which is especially efiective due to the flat surface of the baffle plate coming into contact with the fiat side of the strengthening rib above.
I have shown my structure in the precise form which I prefer and which I believe is very advantageous. I desire to claim the same specifically and also broadly as pointed out in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In combination with a combustion chamber and feed section of a hot air furnace, an
integral supporting rib disposed within the said feed section, transversely across the top thereof and strengthening the same and having its ends extended downwardly to form attaching ears, a flat perforated baffle plate suspended back of said rib and disposed to contact therewith when in depending posihand.
JOHN P. KOLLA.
