his invention relates to an illuminated display apparatus, and especially to that kind of device which is used for displaying articles advertised for sale, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which is sim ale in construction, inexpensive to make, and which provides for attractively displaying articles having transparent or translucent parts.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a display device having a card provided with openings on which articles having transparent or translucent parts may be arranged, with their transparent parts over the openings so that they may be illuminated by light coming from a source arranged in rear of the card. 7

Still another object of the invention is the provisionof a device of this kind having a light. chamber in which a source of light may be arranged and open on one side, said open side being closed by means of a display card on which the articles to be displayed are attractively arranged.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device. of this kind especially adapted for displaying trolling spoons of the kind disclosed in an application for patent by Frederic J. Hofschneider, Serial No. 402,357, filed October 25', 1929, for trolling spoon.

To these and other ends the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts that will appear from the following description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, the novel fea tures being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

which like reference numerals refer to corresponding parts in all figures, 1 indicates a display card on which the articles 2 to be displayed are mounted. The card 1 is preferably constructed of sheet material, such as cardboard, and is adapted to be supported in an upright position by any suitable means, such as the lamp chamber or housing 3. The housing 3 is constructed of sheetmaterial, and has an opening in its rear wall 4 in which an electric lamp 5 may be frictionally secured. The front of the housing opposite the wall 4 is open, and theside walls 6 have forwardly and upwardly projecting hookshaped lugs 7 on which the display card is mounted to engagethe front edges of the side walls and close the open front side of the lamp chamber. If desired, the front edges of the sides 6 of the chamber may be inclined rearwardly from the vertical so that the display card may engage them under the action of gravity and no additional securing means isnecessary. In order to conveniently arrange the display card 1 on the projections 7, it may be provided with notches 8 adapted 5 to cooperate with the projections or hooks 7 The open top of the chamber may be closed by means of a cover so that the light from the lamp is confined within the chamber. The display card 1 isprovided with a plurality of openings 9 substantially rectangular in shape and arranged in a curved line about a center which is substantially in a horizontal line through the center of the lamp 5. Arranged between each opening 9 and said center is an openinglO in the form of a slot, and a similar opening 11 is formed in the same radial line outside the opening 9. It will be noted that the openings 9, 10 and 11 are arranged concentrically in radial alinement and that the radial line of any group of them passes substantially through the center of the opening 9. Each pair of the slotted openings 10 and 11is adaped to receive one of the articles to be displayed arranged over or in front of the opening 9.

In the present disclosure, the articles 2 displayed are trolling spoons of the kind disclosed in the former application above identified. Said spoons comprise a concave body 1 portion 12, the outer edge of which is arranged in a single plane and-adapted to en gage the surface of the card throughout its length. At its ends, the body, is provided with openings in which rings 13 and 14 are arranged on which hooks 15 aremounted. When placed on the display card, the rings 13 and 14 are projected through the slotted openings and connected on the rear side of the card by means of cords or wires 16 whereby the spoons are secured to the cards. The spoons are arranged on the cards with their front ends inwardly, and just back of the front end of each spoon it isprovided with a pair of openings 17. The openings 17 are spaced from each other and arranged on opposite sides of the medial line of the spoon.

Secured in each of the openings 17 by means of a cord or wire 18, or by other suitable means, is a bead or crystal 19 which may be of any suitable transparent or translucent material, such as glass, which may be colored with bright colors if desired. The beads 19 areslightly larger in diameter than the openings 17 so that they do not pass through the openings but are seated therein and project above the upper surface of the spoon. As shown, the beads 19 are provided with openings whereby they may be threaded on fine cords or wires, the ends of which are passed through small openings in the spoon and secured together on the reverse or lower side of the spoon. The openings 9 in the display card are so arranged that when the spoon is arranged in the openings 10 and 11, as above described, the openings 17 are arranged over the openings 9 so that light falling on the back of the card passes through the openings 9 and illuminates the beads or crystals 19 on the spoons. This illuminated effect of the crystals may be secured in ways other than by the use of the lamp chamber 3 by placing the card between the observer and any source of light. The hooks at the front end of the spoons may be extended toward a common center and secured in such position by means of a cord or wire 20, as shown. 7

While only one embodiment of the invention is illustrated and described herein, it will be understood that this application is intended to cover such changes; or modifications as come within the spirit of the invention or scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. A display apparatus comprising a display card having an opening therein, means for securing an article to be displayed on said card over said opening, said article having an opening therein, anda substantially transparent bead seated in the opening'and arranged over the opening in the card, and means for supporting said card in a substantially upright position before a source of light.

2. A display apparatus comprising a display card having a plurality of openings therein, means for securing articles to be displayed on said card in a substantially semicircular design over said openings, each of said articles having an opening therein and a substantially transparent bead seated in the opening arranged over the opening in the card, and means for supporting said card in a substantially upright position before a source of light.

' 3. A display apparatus for trolling spoons comprising a display card having a plurality of circumferentially arranged openings therein, means for securing a trolling spoon on said card over each of said openings, each of said spoons lying fiushagainst the surface of the card at its outer edge and having a pair of beads seated in openings and arranged over the opening in the card, and means'for supporting the card in an upright position before a source of light.

4. A display apparatus for trolling spoons comprisin a display card having a plurality of openings therein arranged circumferentially about a center, means for securing a plurality of trolling spoons on said card arranged radially about said center over said openings and having openings therein adapted to register with the openings in the card and beads seated in said openings, and means for supporting said card in an upright positionbefore a source of light.

5. A display apparatus for trolling spoons comprising a display card having a plurality of circumferentially arranged openings therein, a pair of openings arranged radially of each of said first mentioned openings and on opposite sides thereof, a trolling spoon secured in each of said pairs of openings and arranged over said first mentioned openings radially of each other and each having an opening arranged over the corresponding first opening in the card, and means for supporting the card in an upright position before a source of light.
