In operation, the feed Water is fed into the n boiler through the pipes 24 and 25 in the usual manner, and is discharged into the feed pan 19 and out through the slots 23 over'thesides of the pan 19 and into the header 17 The feed pan 19 is filled with water at all times regardless of the rate of feed into the boiler, thus sealing the ends of the feed pipes 24: and 25 preventing steam from entering these pipes, flowing backward therethrough and causing a destructive hammering of the check valves and water pipes common in feed water systems for boilers. While I have described more or less pre cisely the details of construction, I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto, as I contemplate changes in form and the proportion of parts'and the substitution of equivalents as circumstances may suggest or render expedient without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention;

Water supply means for boilers comprising in combination, a feed pan extending longitudinally of the boiler above the normal water line thereof, having slots in the upper side thereof extending substantially the entire length of the feed pan, brackets upon which said feed pan is mounted, andlaj: feed water pipe extending into said feed water pan and termmatmg ad acent the bottom thereof,.the saidi feedwater pipe extending 7 into said feed pan in a vertical direction.
