Description

y 1931. c. s CRCKMER 1,807,085
TWO -WAY .VALVE Filed July 25, 1928 Patented May 26, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHARLES S. CRICKMER, F DALLAS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO TRIDEX CORPORATION, 01 DALLAS, TEXAS, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE TWO-WAY VALVE Application filed July 25,
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in two-way valves.
One object of the invention is to provide a'two-way valve whereby fiuid from a single j: conductor may be delivered to either or both of a pair of diverging distributors.
Another object of the invention is to provide a two-way valve having an operating lever and arranged so that when the lever is in 10 a central position, fluid will be delivered to both distributors, and when swung to one side the distributor on that side will remain open, while the distributor on the opposite side will be closed.
A construction designed to carry out the invention will be hereinafter described, together with other features of the invention.
The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown, and wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a valve constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a View partly in elevation and partly in section,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal cross-sectional view showing both distributors open,
Fig. 4 is a similar view reduced and showing the left-hand distributor closed, and
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4: showing the right hand distributor closed.
In the drawings the numeral designates a valve casing having a conductor 11 extending through a nipple 12 at one side. The casing has a tapered bore 13 from which the conductor extends. Nipples 14 and 15, respectively, diverge from the opposite side of the casing and have distributors 16 extending therethrough from the bore 13. The distributors enter the bore in close proximity to each other.
A tapered valve plug 17 has a snug turning fit in the bore 13. This plug is provided with a central stud 18 extending through an aperture in the bottom of the casing receiving a nut 19, whereby the plug is held in the ore.
The plug has a transverse segmental open- 6 ing 20 of sufficient width to expose the con- 1928. Serial 1T0. 295,207.
ductor 11 in all positions to which the plug is turned. A divergent opening 21 extends from the center of the opening 20 as well as from the center of the plug. The opening 21 is wide enough at its outer end to span both the distributors 16. Websv 22 separate the openings 20 and 21 and conform thereto.
The plug has a central stem 23 extending above the casing. The socket 25 of a hand lever 24 receives the stud and is'fastened thereon by a pin 26. A down-turned finger 27 overhangs the curved upper edge of the casing. Stops 28 on each side in the path of the finger limit the rotation of the plug and the swing of the lever.
When the lever 24 is in the central or intermediate position, as is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the plug will be in the position shown in Fig. 3. A fluid admitted through the conductor 11 will pass through openings 20 and 21 to both distributors 16. If it is desired to out off the distributor of the nipple 14 the lever 241 is swung to the left until the finger 27 strikes the right hand stop 28. This brings the right hand web 22 over the right distributor, closes it, but leaves the left hand distributor open, as is shown in Fig. 4:. Fig.
5 shows the left hand distributor closed.
The openings 20 and 21 are important. The opening 21 is wide enough to span both 30 distributors 16 or one of them when the valve is swung. The webs 22 are located just right to open or close the distributors upon limited movements of the plug.
Various changes inthe size and shape of'us the different parts, as well asmodifications and alterations, may be made within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim, is: v
In a two-way valve, a valve casing having a single conductor entering one side and diverging distributors extending from the opposite side of the casing, a rotatable valve plug. within the casing having a segmental opening of circumferential area equal to substantially one half of the diameter on the plug and communicating with the single conductor in all positions of the plug and also provided with a divergent opening ex tending from the segmental opening for spanning both distributors, said plug having webs on each side of the divergent opening separating the divergent and segmental openings and of a circumferential area less than the combined distributor openings, and a hand lever on the plug having a cooperating stop means to limit the travel of the Webs to always maintain one distributor opening in communication with the conductor. 10 l Intestimony-whereof]:aifixmysignature.
