IMPROVEMENT IN SIZING VARNS.
Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,653, dated August 1, 1876; application filed April 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS SCHNHERR, of Chemnitz, in the Kingdom of Saxony, in the Empire ot' Germany, have invented a nen'and useful Improvement in Sizing Yarns, which was patented in Great Britain October 12, 1870, No. 2,693, and which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical section ofthe apparatus which I use in carrying out my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan or top View.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in a process for sizing woolen or other warps by passing them, in the same width in which they have been shorn or beamed, over or through between sizing-rollers, and then winding the same while wet or moist, without changing` their width, on a beam or drum, whereby the sizing is uniformly diffused, the sizing material which adheres to the sides of one thread being l' absorbed by the adjoining threads.
The apparatus which I use in carrying out my invention consists of a reel, Dwhich contains the shorn or beamed warp. From this reel the warp is carried over a guide-roller, E, to the sizing-roller A, which dips into a cistern, F, containing the sizing material. With this sizing-ro1ler is combined a pressing-roller, 1 3, which can be depressed by means of setscrews or other suitable means. From the sizing-roller the warp passes to the beam or take-up drum C, on which it is wound up tight while it is still wet or moist, and without changing its width.
'with the sizing-roller, takes up a sufficient quantity of sizing` for the purpose; or, if the sizing-roller is provided with a suitable scraper or doctor to remove the surplus sizing, the pressing-roller can be dispensed with, and the warp can be carried directly over the sizingroller to the take-up drum C.
If the apparatus is to be used always for warps of uniform width, the drum C may be placed directly upon the sizing-roller A, in place ofthe pressing-roller B,-said drum being depressed by any suitable means.
The warp, after having been sized, is dried by removing it from the drum C, and exposing it to any suitable drying process.
My process is applicable with equal advantage to warps of cotton or linen; also, other materials besides glue are used for sizing.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The within described process for sizing woolen or other warps by passing them, in the same width in which they have been shorn or beamed, over or through between sizing-rollers, and then winding the same while wet or moist, without changing their width, on a beam or drum, substantially as set forth.
This specification signed by me this 8th day ol' March, 1876.
