This invention relates to grooving machines and more especially in machines used in making grooves in stair treads. Another object of the invention is to provide a device that will work in maldng these grooves in varying materials 'such as wood, cement and stone.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device that will make a plurality of grooves at the same time.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device comprising two different means of making these desired grooves.
In the prevention of accident, it has been found desirable to utilize means for preventing people from slipping on stair treads. It is the purpose of this invention to provlde a device that will make a groove or a plurality of grooves in stair treads in order to provide a place for pouring a plastic material into grooves which sets up hard with a rough and slightly uneven surface in order to provide means from keeping people from slipping while going up and down stairs.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 2 is a top plan view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detailed view showing a portion of Figure 1.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that I have provided a body portion 1 upon which is positioned a motor 2. This motor 2 is positioned on the top of the body portion 1 at the rear end of same. Ordinarily this motor will be energized by an electrical current. In order to move the device freely I have provided a handle member 3 which is Serial No. 227,320.
used in moving the device back and forth in connection with supporting wheels 4 which are preferably made with rubber tires.
One of the means of making the desired grooves is by a plurality of adjustable circular cutters 5 which are secured to a movable shaft 6 and manipulates by means of a fulcrum arms 7 functioningwith a fulcrum shaft 8. In order to allow for up and down movement of the circular cutters 5 there has been provided a circular slot 9 formed in the side walls 10 of the body portion 1. In order to hold the fulcrum arms 7 in fixed position there is provided an adjustable stop 11 which functions with a curved slot 12.
By referring to Figure 1 it will be seen that when the motor 2 has been put in motion a belt 13 provides driving power for the adjustable circular cutters 5. It will also be seen that there is a second belt 14 connected to the motor 2 which functions with a drive pulley 15 secured to shaft 16 which also carries pulleys 17 and 18. The pulley 17 functioning with a belt 19 energizing a pulley 20 secured to a shaft 21 and carries a plurality of kick off cams 22. These kick off cams 22 functioning with a plurality of perpendicular picker shafts 23 causing the same to move rapidly up and down as the perpendicular picker shafts are energized by the kick off cams 22 and tension springs 24. The tension springs 24 are positioned around each perpendicular picker shaft 23. The lower end of each of the tension springs 24 are held by means of a seat 25 so that the tension springs 24 are held under desired tension. The lower ends 31 of said perpendicular picker shafts 23 are provided with bits '26 which may be formed to meet the varying conditions of-the work to be done.
In order to keep the device moving forward when in operation the pulley 18 carries a belt 27 functioning with a pulley 28 which is carried upon a shaft 29. This shaft 29 is provided with a small friction wheel 30 which functions with the outer circumference of the front supporting wheels 4. It is obvious that the small friction wheel 30 when functioning with the front support wheels 4, will allow for a slight pause in the forward movement ofthe device 'to allow for the action of the I 6 bits 26.
