Description

.1. BARTA TUB ' Filed Jan. 19, 1931 :NVENToR cfosepfi Baria.
KMHLW ATTORNEY$ Patented May 1 9, 1931 PATENT err-ice JOSEPH n or MARTIN'S FERRY,- on Io TUB Application filed January 19, 1931. Serial 1T0. 509,841.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tubs generally, although more particularlyto tubs which are employed for rinsing clothes, dishes, etc., and embodies certain improvements over my prior Patent 1,778,620, Oct. 14, 1930.
In my prior patent, fresh water is supplied to the tub through the medium of an inlet pipe which is detachably connected to the bottom of the tub and is in communicationwith an opening in said bottom, and a perforated plug or nozzle is removablymounted in the opening. The peripheral wall of the tub is provided with an annular channel adjacent the top which is in communication with a drainpipe to continuously carry off the scum and Water. When it is desired to empty the water from the tub, it is necessary'to either tilt the tub or to disconnect the inlet'pipe and plug.
Among the several objects of my invention are to provide a tub of the character described above wherein water may be emptied from the tub without tilting the same or without disconnecting the water inlet pipe, and to provide such a construction which is extremely simple and is therefore cheap to manufacture.
-\Vith these and other objects in view which will more fully appear, the nature of the invention will be more clearly understood by following the description, the appended claims, and the several views illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a tub constructed in accordance with my invention, and
Figure 2 is a detail section showing the outlet valve open.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, my invention includes a tub A having a bottom 5, an annular wall 6 having an outlet annular conduit 7 located in a horizontal plane and above the bottom 5, or adjacent the top of the tub, and provided with inlet openings 8, and at least one discharge opening 9 which is in open communication with a discharge pipe 10.
The bottom 5 is centrally formed with a single outlet opening 11. A waste pipe 12 has'its upper end fitted within the opening 11 and secured to the bottom 5 by solder or other suitable means, so as to seal the connection between the waste, pipe and the bottom of the tub. I
The waste pipe 12is provided with a lateral discharge nipple'13 which is connected with the discharge pipe by a flexible pipe 14. The waste pipe 12 is in effect avalve body and the upper end of the pipe constitutes a valve seat.
Extending upwardly through the bottomof the waste pipe or valve body 12 is a water inlet pipe section 15 whose upper end is exteriorly threadedv and projects above the bottom 5 of the tub. The exterior diameter of the inlet pipe section is considerably less than the interior diameter of the waste pipe or valve body 12 and consequently an annular chamber is formed within the valve body and around the-inlet pipe. A combined valve and nozzle 16 is threaded onto the upper end of the inlet pipe section 15, and is provided with a plurality of discharge openin s 17 and with a peripheral flange 18 which ears against the upper end or valve seat of the waste pipe orvalve body 12 through the' medium of a gasket 19. The nozzle or-valve 16 thus functions to admit water into the tub from the inlet pipe section 15 and also to form a closure which normally seals the open-- ing in the bottom of the tub.
When the tub is in use water continuously passes upwardly through. the water inlet pipe section 15 and thence outwardly through the discharge opening 17 of the com- The water together with the scum thereon is discharged continuously through the outlet bined nozzle and valve 16 and into the tub.
tub, the supply of fresh water is cut off and p the combined nozzle and valve 16 is adjusted upwardly from the valve seat thereby forming a passage which communicates with the interior of the tub and with the valve body 12, thereby permitting the Waste water to readily gravitate through the valve body and flexible pipe 14 to the discharge pipe 10.
. It is of course to be understood that the details of structure and arrangements of parts may bevariously changed and modied without departing from the spirit and sco e of my invention as claimed. 7 claim 4 1. A tub including a bottom having a waste opening and a peripheral wall; a waste pipe communicating with the opening in the ottom of the tub; a water inlet pipe extendingupwardly through the waste pipe and 7 through the opening in the bottom of the tub; and a discharge nozzle adjustably secured to the upper end of the water inlet pipe and normally sealing the waste opening in the bottom of the tub.
a combined discharge nozzle and valve adjustably secured to the upper end of the water mlet pipe for cooperation'with the valveseat to respectively admit water into the tub and to seal the waste opening against egress of water from the tub.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscrlbed my name.
2. A tub includin'ga bottom having a waste opening anda peripheral wall; a waste .pipe communicating with the opening in the bottom of the tub; said waste pipe including a valve body' connected to the bottom of the tub and disposed in communication with the waste openlng, the upperend of the valve body projecting into the waste opening and forming a valve seat; .a water inlet pipe extending upwardly centrally through the JOSEPHYBARTA. v V

4. A tub including a bottom having a waste opening and a peripheral wall having a discharge opening adjacent the top thereof,
of a discharge p1pe communicating with said discharge-opening, a waste pipe communicating with the opening in the bottom of I the tub and with said discharge pipe; said q waste ipe including a valve body connected to the ottom of the tub and disposed in com munication with the waste opening, and a pipe section connected to and m communication with the valve body and the discharge pipe, the upper end of the valve body project-- n into the waste openin and forining a va ve seat; a water inlet pipe extending upwardly centrally through the valve body and terminating above the bottom of the tub; and
