GUILLAUME BOIVIN, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUTTING HEEL-STIFFENERSFOR BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,530, dated August 1,1876 application filed April 29, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUILLAUME BOIVIN, of Montreal, Canada, have invented a new and useful Improvement, in Cutting Blanks to be Bent and Shaped for Boot and Shoe stiffeners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which the same figures and letters refer to corresponding parts.
Figure 1 illustrates the shape of my shoestift'ener as I cut it, to be bent and shaped for the boot .or shoe. Fig. 2 shows the pieces as they are cut from the stock. Fig. 3 shows the stiffener as crimped and ready for use.
My invention consists in cutting the stifi'eners from the blank in such a manner as to secure broad lips and edges for pegging and sewing, and at the same time have no waste in the material out; and it further consists in securing a shape which will allow the die to be made in such a manner that it can be easily repaired. All this I accomplish by making the outlines of the blank straight lines of the form and configuration shown, by which I can cut from the stock or original piece of leather stiffeners in alternate rows without wasting any of the material, and have broad lips and edges for pegging or sewing. Besides the advantage of making a very desirable stiffener without loss of stock in cutting, the shape possesses another advantage, which is that I can form a die with straight knives secured in a head, which knives can be removed for sharpening and repairs, or replaced by new ones with very little difficulty.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A heel-stiffener cut from a piece of leather or other material, in the shape shown and described, the outline of which is entirely composed of straight lines, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
The above specification of my said invention signed and witnessed, at. Montreal, this 18th day of April, A. D. 1876.
G. BOIVIN.
