Description

May 12, 1931. E. s. Mlx
' STRAP coNNEc'rN Filed Feb. 25. 192s Patented May 12, 1931 UNITE wvI @me EDWIN s. MIX, or ROCHESTER, NEW Yoan, essIGNOa To HICKOK MANUFACTURING COMPANY, INC., or ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK STRAP CONNECTION Application led VFebruary 25, 1929. Serial No. 342,527. Y y
The present invention relates to strap connections and an obj ect of this-invention is to j provide a construction in which an adjusting slide has a clamping member pivoted in close relation to the face plate of the slide so that the overall thickness of the slide is reduced to a minimum, the clamping member being movable so asy to provide a wide space to permit a strap portion. to be freely ad" justed between the clamping member andthe face plate.
To this and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described: the novel features being pointed out' In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, t-he front plate is formed by two bars l spaced or separated at 2 and connected by rearwardly turned side flanges 3 formed with bearings 4.
The clamping member comprises a clamp# ing portion 5 and an Operating portion 6 extending therefrom. In this f instance, the clamping portion and the operating'portion are formed from asingle piece of sheet material, the clamping portion being formed by pressing up a rib on the sheet material and serrating theend of the rib at 7 to provide a roughened surface. Pintles or bearings are projected from opposite sides of the clamping member, preferably by rolling portions 8 from the sheet metal. The axis of rotation of the clamp isso situated that it will lie close to the rear face of the front plate but as the pintles project from the rear side of the operating portion, the face plate may be swung to provide a maximum space between the clamping member and the rear face of the front plate so as to permit the free adjustment ofthe strap portion 9. The strap j portion 10 is secured about one of the bars 1v so that the strap portion 9 after passing beneath the clamp, passes in rear of theportion 10 and is held in its adjusted position by the clamp Awhich deflects the strap portion 9 laterally into the slot 2. Q
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: f
1. A strap slide comprising a front plate having side fianges on the rear side and a clamping member formed of sheet material, having a pressed up clamping rib on one side near one edge of the member, and two spaced rolled pivots having outer cylindrical bearing portions turning in said flanges and arranged in line with the rib at opposite ends of the latter and projecting from opposite edges of the sheet material and also from that face of the sheet material opposite the.
face from which the'ribprojects, there beprovided a space between the latter pro-V jecting portions so that a greater space is provided between the plate and the clamping member when the latter is swung to one extreme position.
2. In a strap slide, the combination with a front plate having rearwardly extending side flanges, of a clamping member comprising an operating plate, a clamping rib projecting from one side of the plate, and pintles having their outer surfaces forming bearings turning in the side flanges, and projecting from opposite side edges of the plate, and also from the side of the platel opposite the rib, there being provided an unrestricted space extending between the projecting portions of the pintles on the side opposite the rib to permit the free sliding of a strap between the clamping member and the front plate when the clamping member is'swung to an extreme nonclamping position.
3. A strap slide comprising a front plate provided with side flanges and a clamping member pivotally mounted in said side flanges and having a clamping portion on one side and two pintles projecting from opposite side edges of said clamping member and also from that side of the Clamping member opposite the clamping portion, the pintles having;r outer bearing surfaces turning in the side anges, and that side of the clamping member from which the pintles project having a space which is substantially as wide as thedst'ance between the side iianges, So that the Clamping member when swung subimtelly 1800 will provide. a. space between.A the clmnpng member @undv the. buckle frame, as Well as between the inner ends of the pintles through which a strap may be paSsedf.
