Patented May '12, 1931 UNITED STATES JULIUS HARRY HARRIS AND CHARLES FRANKLIN BURNEY, 01? DALLAS, TEXAS SAMPLE DISPLAY Application filed J'une 19,
This invention relates to a sample displayand has relation more particularly to a device of this kind especially designed and adapted for use in connection with trousers, and it is an object of the invention to provide a sample displ'ay which can be readily and conveniently carried by a salesman and employed to the same advantage as a completed garment for showing the workman- 19 ship on the made-up garment as well as the appearance of the goods when made into a garment.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a display sample which does not constitute a complete garment but is madeup to include various features of the completed garment and which sample display actually represents the feel of a finished garment and at the same time allows for examination of the quality of the cloth to be used.
' An additional object of the invention is to provide a display sample intended for use in connection with trousers and which is so formed to resemble a trousers leg whether the sample be draped or lies fiat-which sample device can also be advantageously presented to a customer as a sample of the .material' of the garment as well as the Workmanship contained therein together with the trimmings to be used. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a sample display which occupies relatively small space, thus avoiding the necessity of a salesman carrying a pair of trousers for every part in his line, and which sample display sets forth to fulladvantage how the various parts of the garment are constructed,
as for example the waist band, the belt loop, 7
the buttons and buttonholes, the pocket, as well as other features of the garment.
A still further object of, the invention is to provide a sample display which can be employed to present new designs of cloth in an lnexpensive manner as the sample permits ready and convenient demonstration of the manner in which the sample is to be used as on accountof the resemblance of the sample to anactual garment, it will show- 1930. Serial No. 462,308.
rangement of the several parts of our im-' '55' proved sample display whereby certain im portant advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more-fully set forth. 1
The novel features of our invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that our invention may be the better understood, we will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in plan of a sample display constructed in accordance with an embodiment of our invention and fully extended;
Figure 2 is a view in plan of the reversed side of the device as illustrated in Figure 1-;
Figure 3 is a view in plan of the'device as illustrated in Figure 1 folded;
Figure 4 is a detailed sectional View taken substantially on the line 1 4 of Figure 1'; a
Figure 5 is a view in edge elevation of the device as illustrated in Figure 1; 4 V
Figure 6'is a viewin, plan of a sample display constructed in accordance with a further embodim ent ofour invention and ex" tended;
Figure 7 is a view in plan of the reversed side of the device as illustrated in Figure 6;
Figure 8 is a view of the device as illustrated in Figure 6 folded;
Figure 9 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 99 of Figure 6."
r In the embodiment of our invention as illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 inclusivefthe sample display comprises'a sheet 1 of desired fabric which is provided along its transverse center with a crease 2 so that with the sample extended, as in Figure 1, or folded along the crease, as in Figure 3, an ef fective display will be given of a trousers leg. To facilitate such display, one end portion of the sheet 1 is provided thereacross with an overlying strip 3 in simulation of 1:3 7 I a cufi", the crease 2 hereinbefore referred to being continued through the cuff as is clearly indicated in Figures 1 and 2.
The end portion of the sheet 1 remote from the cuff 3 has secured thereto and extending entirely thereacross the strip 4 in simulation of a Waist band and the side marginal port-ions of the sheet 1 adjacent to the extremities of the band or strip 4 are out on the lines 5 to display the style of the ga ment at the waist line. The strip or band 4: has associated therewith the belt loop 6 and adjacent to the crease 2, which is also continued through the strip or band l, are arranged the buttons 7.
In the embodiment of our invention as illustrated in Figures 6 to 9, the same general features are embodied as in the first form of our invention except that the fabric sheet is provided at substantially its transverse center with a seam 8 extending substantially entirely therealong and which seam has a portion open, as at 9, to give proper pocket display. The seam 8 is continued by the creases 1.0- across the cuff strip 3 and the waist strip or band 4 so that this sample display when either flat or folded also effectively exhibits the style of a trousers? leg. The waist strip or band l has associated therewith a belt loop 6 and also a buttonhole 11 for association with the desired positioned button 12.
From the foregoing it is believed that our improved display sample in view of the simplicity of construction, and compactness makesit a great convenience in displaying samples of piece goods of any character intended for and used in the manufacture of trousers, knickers and the like. It is also believed that our invention is of a character whereby the required display may be made to a customer in a comparatively short period of time and that our invention is of particular advantage in that it requires less room to pack and is less expensive to transport.
7 Our sample display is also of a character that it can be mailed to a customer for inspection and its character is such to let the customer clearly understand the same without any special explanation or demonstration.
We also wish to state that the efiiciency of our sample display may be further increased by having the opposite faces of the sample of patterns of different colors.
From the foregoing description I it is thought to be obvious that a sample display constructed in accordance with our invention is particularly well adapted for .use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and employed,
and it will also be obvious that our invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason we do not wish to be understood as limiting ourselves to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out our invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
We claim 1. A sample display for trousers comprising a sheet of material provided therealong with a crease, a waist band strip secured across one end portion of the sheet a cuff secured across the opposite end of the sheet and belt loops positioned across said waistband. I
2. A sample display for trousers comprising an elongated sheet of material adapted to be folded laterally upon itself, a waist band strip secured across one end portion of the sheet, and belt loops disposed across said waist band.
In testimony whereof we hereunto aflix our signatures.
JULIUS H. HARRIS. CHARLES F. BURNEY.
