Description

MPETERS, PNOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASRINGTON D ,O-
PATEI' FFIo GEORGE W. CORNELL, oEonAEENoE CENTRE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,463, dated August 1, 1876;
June 7, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. GoENELL. of Clarence (Jentre, in the'county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fix tures, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to that class of curtain-fixtures in which the curtain is provided with a roller both at its top and bottom, and which are so constructed that both the upper and lower'roller may be raised or lowered, so that either the upper or lower portion of the window may be shaded.
My invention consists of the particular construction and. arrangements of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front View of my improved curtain-fixture. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in each of the figures.
A represents the window-frame, and B the curtain. 0 represents the upper curtain-roller, provided at each end with two pulleys, d e, the inner pulleys d d having the same diameter as the curtain-roller, while the outer pulleys e 6 may be of any suitable size. ff represent two supporting'bauds, secured with their upper ends to the window-frame, and wound around the pulleys d d of the upper curtain-roller. g g are two cords wound around the outer pulleys e e of the upper curtain-roller in a direction opposite to that of the bands f f, and passing through screw-eyes h, secured application filed to the upper portion of the window case. The
two cords g g are attached to'a weight, i, of sufficient gravity to counterbalance the upper curtain-roller. K represents the lower our tain-roller, provided at its ends with two pulleys, 1, around which are wound two cords, m,
which pass through screw-eyes n, and are connected to a counterbalancing-weight, 0.
Instead of the screw-eyes h n, rollers or pulleys of suitable size may be employed for guiding the cords g m, if preferred.
By raising or lowering either of the weights I i 0 the corresponding curtain-roller is rolled up or down, and the curtain wound up either from the top or bottom, as may be desired, the curtain being held stationary in any desired position by the weights i 0.
The curtain being suspended by the bands f f and cords m 9, it is readily swung away from the window whendesired, thereby enabling my curtain-fixture to be used with hinged as well as with sliding window-sash.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the curtain B, upper roller 0, provided with pulleys d d e e, and lower roller K, provided with pulleys ll, of the supporting-bands f f, cords 9 gen m, and weights 1' 0, arranged and operating substantially as shown and described.
- I GEORGE W. GORNELL.
