JAMES DARGAN, OF BOSTON, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN E. WHEELER, OF LYNN,

IMPROVEMENT IN MACHI NES FOR CHANNE L|NG THE SOLES 0F BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,4 I 9, dated August 1, 1876; application filed May 19, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES DARGAN, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Sole-Channeling Machines, of which the fol- Reference is had to the accompaning drawing, forming a part of this specification, in explaining. the same, in which Figure 1 is a plan. Fig. 2 is an end elevation; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
' The guide B is circular in shape, and preferably is made to revolve, and is provided with a horizontal movement to and from the cutting and grooving knives on the rod A, when operated by the lever 0. Two nuts or stops, F F, on the threaded rod E, act to provide a limit to the .adjustability by contacting with the operating lever C.
It will thus be seen, as the sole is fed to the knives (which are not shown in the drawing) by the feed-roll A, that the edge will bear against the circular guide, and that any variation in the location of the channel with reference to the sole-edge can be made by the operator at any desired point as the channeling progresses, the guide being under the immediate control of the operator through the lever D.
By this means a simple and easy adjustment, capable of any degree of variation, is effected.
Having thus fully described my invention,
ting and grooving mechanism, thereby regu-' lating the location of the channel relative to the sole-edge, substantially as set forth.
- JAMES DARGAN.
