FORM TIE FOR CONCRETE STRUCTURES Filed Oct. 8, 1928 Patented May 5, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT' 'QFFICE JOSEPH L: WEBER, OF GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO WEBER-MCDONALD WALL TIE CGMPANY, A CORPORATION OF VJISCCIN'SIN FORM TIE FOR CONCRETE STRUCTURES Application filed October 8, 1928. Serial No. 310,987.
; tion of a wall, curbing, siding or foundation,
can be temporarily connected at opposite sides of the mold, so that on the hardening of the structure, the sections can be conveniently released, without damage to the mold and also without excessive exertion on the part of mechanic, thereby enabling the dismantling of the mold with dispatch.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form, requiring like fasteners for all ties used in connection with the mold or form, these fasteners being easily accessible, so as to permit quick and convenient removal of the sections of the mold or form, when the structure has become set.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means of this character, whlch is extremely simple 1n construction, thorou 'hl reliable and eflicient' in )ur ose strong, durable, readily and easily applied and removed from a form or mold, standard in character, and inexpensive to manufacture.
\Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of conments of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1, is a fragmentary plan view of a pair of form sides between which a concrete wall is to be formed, showing one form of a tie constructed in accordance with the invention applied.
Figure 2, is a vertical cross section taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3, is a view similar to Figure 1,
showing a slightinodification of the invention.
Figure 4:, is a vertical cross section taken approximately on the line 44 of Figure 3. Figure 5, is a view similar to Figure 1', showing a further slight modification of the invention.
Figure 6, is a vertical cross section taken approximately on the line 6+6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7, is a side view of the tie shown in Figure 1.
Figure 8, is an end view thereof.
Figure 9, is a side view of the tie shown in Figure 3. c
Figure 10, is an edge View thereof.
Figure 11, is a side View of the tie shown in Figure 5.
Figure 12, is a edge view thereof;
Figures 13, 14, 15, and 16, are detail views of a still further modification of the invention.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the form or mold within which the concrete Walls or the like are to be molded is comprised generally of two sides A, and B, respectively, formed by boards or the like tied together with spacing members C, located at intervals, which spacing members are under compression when the forms or molds are drawn together by the ties herein after fully described.
With reference to Figures 1, 2, 7, and 8, of
the drawings, the tie thcreinlshown comprises a a pair of bails, each including a straightrun of wire 10, havlng the required length and rigidity, formed at one-end portion with a right angular terminal 11, provided with an eye 12, while the other end portion is formed with an outwardly distorted terminal 13, provided with an'eye extremityl l. :These bails are reversely applied about the spacing members C, and between the meeting edges of the boards of the sides A, and B, as is clearly ship, and passed through said eyes 12, and 14:,
are nails 15, which are driven into the spacing members C, as shown.
In Figures 3, 4, 9 and 10, of the drawings there is shown a slight modification of tie, wherein each bail includes an intermediate angular portion 16, and outer non-aligned stralghtportlons 17, one of the latter beingv formed with a hook terminal 18, provided with an eyeentremity 19, and the other with a right angular terminal 20, having an eye extremity 21. These bails are reversely applied to the form or mold, so that thehook terminals 18, embrace partially the spacing members C, and the right angularterminals 20, overlap the outer edge portions of said members, as clearly shown in Figures r3, and 4, of the drawings. Engaged in the eye extremities 19, and 21, are nails 22, these being driven into the spacing members C.
With reference to Figures 5, 6, 11, and 12,
oft-he drawings, there is shown a further modification of tie, wherein the hook terminals 23, and 24, are reverselyset, and formed with eye extremities 25, the latter receiving nails 26, which are driven into the spacing members C, when the bails are applied as shown in Figuresf), and 6, of said drawings.
It should be apparent that when. the form or mold including the sides A, and B, and the spacing members C, are confined within a trench beneath the ground surface, the ties can be readily released by removalof the nails from the eyes, and such nails are readily accessible to an extractor operated at the ground surface.
WVith reference to Figures 13, 14, 15 and 16, of the drawings there is shown a still further modification of the invention, wherein each bail there bein two as com aanionsQ coin- V b prises a stralght run 2(, having right/angular terminals 28, one belng formed with an eye extremity 29, while the other is. formed with a hook bill 30. In the'use of the bails, these are reverselydisposed in the pair, so that the bill 30, of each'will be inserted in the eye extremity 29, thus removably interlocking the pair togetherifor embracing relation to the worksimilar to Figures 1, and 2, of the. drawings.
Whatis claimed is A form tie of the kind described, comprising a pair of relatively stiff-wire members,
each includinga long stretch and relative short bent terminals, the terminals being constructed 'to embrace a wall form, and eyes formed on the terminals and adapted to receivefasteners to be driven intothe wall form to hold said terminals in embracing relation thereto, said eyes of the respective terminals being free of each other and non-twisted together, the: long stretches of the members being adapted tolie crosswise of the wall form.
In testimony whereof I afiixmy signature.
JOSEPH L. VEBER.
