Description

May 5, 1931. E. SLATER 1,803,567
MEANS FOR AUTOMATIGALLY'REMOVING WATER FROM BOATS Filed Oct. 16, 1950 Patented May 5, 1 931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ERIC SLATER, F HEATON, BOLTON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR .TO GEORGE TAYLOR (BRASS i FOUNDRIES) LIMITED, OF IB OLTON,v ENGLAND MEANS FOR AUTOMATICALLY :aEMovIiv WATER FROM BOATS Application filed October 16, 1930, SerialNo. 489,134, and in Great Britain December 16, 1929 This invention has for its object to provide improved means for automatically removing water from the interior'of fast motor boats while in motion.
The invention comprises an ejector which L is situated at the underside of the'boat and depends for its action on the motion of the boat through the water, and aregulating valve situated within the boat. In the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings a 1 Figure 1 is a side elevation and Figure 2 a cross section of an ejector constructed in accordance with this invention. 1
In carrying the invention into efi'ect as shown, we employ a shallow hollow member forming a channel a of. rectangular or other cross section which is closed at one end (6) and open at'the other (a), and is adapted to be attached to the underside of the boat d. This channel is preferably tapered at its for ward closed end 6 to minimize resistance, and 1 the openend c is at .the rear. 011 the upper side of the channel and preferably near its :3 closed end is arranged a tubular extension e which projects through'the bottom into the interior of the boat, and within the extension is arranged avalve f which controls an'aperture 9 opening into the interior of the chanze nel. The extension is perforated as at h to allow water topass into itfrom the bottom of the boat. The extension is also provided with a removable cap iwhich carries a screwed stem j whereby the valve can be actuated.
:5 Due to the action of a boat moving swiftly, V
suction is set up within the channel a, and 011 opening the valve this effect, can 'be utilized for Withdrawing Water automatically from the interior of the boat bottom.
To prevent automatically return flow of water when the boat is standing or moving slowly, we combine with the aperture 9 a non-return valve k which is held on its seating by a light spring Z.
By this invention we are able to effect withdrawal of water from the boat while in motion in a very simple and convenient manner.
Having thus describedmy invention what I claim as new andcdesire to secure by Letters Patent is the boat, a cylindrical hollow and perforated In means for automatically removing Water from boats, the combination comprising a hollow channel having an open end and adapted to be attached to the underside of extension from the channel adapted to proj ec't into the boat, a pair of coaxial valve seat ings within the extension, a hand operated valve co-operating with one of said seatings,
a screwedstem associated with said Valve, a screwed cap onthe said extension through which the stem passes and engages, a finger piece on the outer end of the stem, a non-return valve c0-0perating with the other seating, and a spring whereby the non-return valve is held on its seating, substantially as described. i f In testimony whereof Ihave signed my. name to this specification. v
