IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-BOARDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,243, dated July 25, I876; application filed v A April 27, 1876.

To all whom it may concern v Be it known that I, CHARLES H. F. Know, of Fishkill Landing, New York, have invented a new and Improved Tailors Ironing-Board and the following is a full description of the which are found in a garment, and to enable the tailor to press with the iron every part, and especially every seam, of a garment.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure I is a full view of my tailors ironing-board, with the armhole support inserted for use, and the pantaloon-board attached. Fig. II is an ordinary sleeve-board. Fig. III is a transverse section of the tailors ironing-board, with the arm-hole support reversed and the sleeveboard attached. Fig. IV is a horizontal view of the ironing-board.

AB C D is a base upon which the two columns E F and G H are attached. These columns carry the wedge shaped board K L M. In the board K L M, at the end K L, is a grooved incision, a b o d, in which the arm-hole support a l) 0 (ZN is fitted- Said arm-hole support consists of a small board, a b c d, upon which is erected the vertical support N O.

When the board is to be used for ironing of the straight or smooth parts of a garment, the arm-hole support 0 N is inserted, as shown in Fig. III, and then the tailor has one smooth board, which can be used as ordinary 'ironingboar'ds are 11sed-by-.tailors.

If it is desired to iron the seam of a coat which exists where the sleeve is sewed to the body of the coat, then the arm-hole support a b c d N O is drawn out of its groove in the board K L M, is turned over so that vertical support- N appears on the board K L M, as shown in Fig. I. The tailor has now the opportunity to place the coat in such manner that he can conveniently press out and smooth .the seams.

' Many other parts of a garment can only be ironed upon a flange, as provided by the -vertical support N 0, and the board can be transformed from a smooth board, as shown in Fig.

Sometimes it is desirable that the vertical support N O shouldlbe near the edge K L,

and the plate a-b c d can be reversed and so round end a 1') toward the base of the cut 0 d.

To iron the seam of pantaloons or sleeves, the pantaloon board I Q R S is inserted in the sleeves and placed upon the board K L M, and upon the flange of said pantaloonboard l Q R S the seamscan be pressed out out with the hand-iron with ease and facility, while the straight parts of the pantaloons and sleeves can be pressed out upon the side PQRS.

' Every tailor or person .used to iron garments will readilyunderstand the useof this apparatus.

The parts of garments referred to in the description have been ironed'by tailors upon flanges such as are shown in the drawing, Fig. II, but my means of my invention tailors are, for the first time, enabled to iron out difficult seams, such as the arm hole seams, with such ease and upon such firm support as is provided by the vertical support N U.

I claim-as my invention- 1. In combination with the board K L M, the detachable reversible support or ironingboard N O, the two being connected substantially as shown and described.

2. As a new article of manufacture, the pantaloon -b0ard P Q R S, having the form shown and described.

3. The-ironing-tab1e K L M, having the supports E F G H, provided with slots to receive the pantaloon-board, as shown and described.
