To all whom zt may concern: f

, Be it known that I, JOHN H. IRWIN, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement'in the Structure' Aof Tubular Lamps, which is fully set forthin rlhat others may fully understand my iin-l provement, l will particularly describe it, having reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a perspective view of my lamp, parts detached. Fig. 2 is a. vertical section of the same.

A is the oil-pot, and B is an ordinary screw'- burner. The side of thc oil-pot is prolonged upward all around above the cover of the same, so as to form a an'ge, a, which constitutes the side or edge of the air-chamber C, which receives air onlythrough the draft-tube` D, which also serves as a convenienthandle for the lamp. When the oil-pot'A is filled with oil, all the adjacent surfaces will soon become covered with a film of oil, which, as is Well known, has

the capacity of creeping over adjacent surl faces toan indefinite extent, and it is desiral ble that'the interior surface of the. air-chalnber C shall be accessible for the purpose of cleansingit, as well as' the exterior surfaces y of the lamp. I therefore make the cover d of the air-|cha1nber removable, and secure it in place by thejacket E, which is rigidly attachedf. "f1- at its top to the burner B.' Thecover d has a large circular orifice at its center. through whchthe air passes up under the jacket E, and thence underthe cone and' to the ange. for the purpose of strengthen-ing and bracing the air-tube D.

Having described my improvement, what I" claiml as new is A` tubular lamp, substantiallyas decscribed, .provided with a removablev plate, d, for coverrn g the entire air-chamber, so that ac-v cess may be had tothe interior of saidchamber, for the purpose set forth.'

2. The removable cover d for the air-chamn ber C, combined with burner provided with a jacket, E, whereby said cover d may be kept in place, Vas set forth. V
