Patented Apr. 7, 1931 WALTER G. HUSEMAN, OF WARDNER, IDAHO TOOTHIEICK HOLDER Application filed December 20, 1928. Serial No. 327,388.
This invention relates to an improved toothpick holder.
One object of the invention is to provide a toothpick holder having openings permit- 6 ting the discharge of toothpicks when the device is inverted.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved toothpick holder having a cap provided with a top wall having a depressed portion forming a guide.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toothpick holder which will ef-' fectually protect the toothpicks against handling and maintain said toothpicks in a sanitary condition. Other objects of the invention not specifically mentioned in the foregoing will ap' pear during the course of the following description.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view showing the preferred form of the invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view showing more clearly the depressed portion of the cap. l
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view showing a slight modification of the invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a container which may be formed of glass or other suitable material and which is provided with a reduced upper end portion Screwed on the upper end portion 2 is a cap 8 formed preferably of metal and provided with a convex top wall 3' having a depressed frusto-conical axial portion 4 forming a guide.
Formed in the top wall 3 of the cap 3 in concentric relation to the guide are inner and outer annular series of spaced openings 5 and 5, each series being arranged in staggered relation to the other, the inner of said series of openings being arranged in close relation to the larger end of the guide 4.
In use the tooth picks are placed in the container and the cap screwed on. When it is desired to withdraw a toothpick from the container, said container is inverted. The toothpicks will then fall against the guide and the points thereof will be deflected so that they will pass through the openings and may then be readily grasped and withdrawn from the container.
Referring now to the modification shown in Figure 3, the numeral 8 indicates a metal cap provided with a convex top wall 9 and formed in said wall is an annular series of openings 10. Formed in said wall and in staggered relation to the series of openings 10, is another annular series of openings 10. Mounted against the lower face of the top wall of the cap is a guide 11 formed of wood or other suitable material, the guide being substantially hemispherical in shape and having its peripheral edge terminating close to and in concentric relation to the openings 10. Extending axially through the guide is a rivet 1'2 tightly connecting said guide with the top wall 9 of the cap. Aside from the foregoing, the modification of the invention is identical with the preferred form and functions in like manner.
Having thus described the invention, I claim A toothpick holder including a container, and a cap carried by the container and being provided with an axial inverted frustoconical depressed portion forming a guide, said cap also having annular series of openings wlth one of said series being disposed closely adjacent to the base of said guide and the other of said series being disposed in the same vertical plane with the inner wall of said container so that a toothpick carried in the container will when the container is inverted be either deflected by the guide to pass through one of the openings of said first mentioned series to project from the container in position for with drawal or by the side wall of the container to project through one of the openings of the second mentioned series of openings for withdrawal.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WALTER G. HUSEMAN.
