The presence of the slots 6 in the cross bar 5 renders it possible to adjust the humidifier and dust collector transversely with respectJ to the register so that the same will be properly positioned laterally with relation thereto. The slots 13 enable the humidifier to be adjusted vertically so that thebottom portionl of the outer container will have theV proper position with respect to the top of the register'. Perforations 30 and 31 in the body, coverand deflector permit the escape of the air. currents from which the dust and dirt have been removed. The increasev in the perforated area reduces the obstruction to the passage of filtered air and therefore makes it possiblek pass through Fig. 1 at- 35 to form cooperating flanges which rest upon the projections 34 and thus supportthe inner container inposition in the outer container. `Within the inner container is a sheet of absorbent fabric 36 whichisheld against the .front and back walls of this container by a flexible wire netting 37.
The present construction differs in one'par` ticular lfrom one of my prior constructions in dispensing with the central chimney through` which the heated air rose to cause evaporation of the liquid in the container. That construction was much more expensive to manufacture than the present construction and had lessheated area against which the fabric was held. In 'the present instance, the fabric is held tightly against the inside of the walls of the container and the heated airl passes along these walls and` causes evaporation of the liquid which rises by capillary force in the wicking.
Filters 40, 41, 42 and 43, similar in construction to the filters 18, 19, are placed, respectively, inside of the ends of the cover, within'the cover,within the front face of the body of the outside container and back of the deflector 24. The action of the filter 41 is considerably improved by spacing the same from the inner face of the cover 44, thus leaving a chamber between the filter and the cover in which the air has free circulation.

This filter is readily detached from the cover by'siipping one edge out past the inwardly projecting flange of one of the brackets 45 secured on the inner face of the cover. These brackets 45 may, if desired, be in the form of angles extending substantially throughout the length of the cover, but it is preferred to take short pieces of angle stockand fasten them adjacent opposite ends of the cover. If it be found desirable to do so, an additional bracket 45 be placed substantially midway of the length of the cover. The lower edge of the front face of the outer container is bent inwardly and upwardly as indicated at 46to'form' a pocket into which the lower edge of the air filter 43 may be inserted. A similar pocket is provided in the upper edge of this member. The upper edge of deflector 24 is turned inwardly and downwardly as indicated at 47 to form a pocket for the reception of the edge of air filter 42. Suitable means 48 may be provided at the lower edge of the defiector 24, either by securing angular brackets thereto or by bending the lower edge of the deflector or portions thereof inwardly to form the necessary retaining projection. From what has been said above, it
vwill be apparent that the air filters may be readily removed to be cleaned and be then returned to their proper positions to function as before.l Because of the changes in con struction the cleaning of the filters is made much easier than in prior constructions. Since the screens are readily interchangeable screens of different finenesses may be used as desired under different conditions.
The ends of the cover are made interchangeable so that in fabricating the cover it not necessary to select right and left parts but two identical parts may be selected at random and applied to the formed body portion 49 of the cover 44, the parts being quickly secured in place to complete the :rigid part of the cover. After this has been done, the filters 40 and 41 are inserted and the cover is completed. The two ends of the inner container, as well as the two ends of the outer container, are made interchangeables() that a single die is needed for each, instead of two dies, and assembly operations are made more rapid and less expensive. Attention is also called to the fact that the screens which occur in pairs are made interchangeable and screen 41 may be put into the .cover either side foremost. Also, the brackets 12 are made identical so that there is no choice in selecting these for purposes of assembly. Having properly positioned the bar upon the register and having tightened up the nuts 9 to holdthe same in place, the outer con-v tainer is attached to the ends 10 of the bar 5y by means of bolts 11 which are tightened upV to hold the same properly positioned, after the outer receptacle has been adjusted verwith respect to the register until lthe lower edgeof the back face thereof'overlaps the top ofthe register slightly as'shown in the drawing. "When` this has been done liquid, preferably water, is placed in the inner container and the cover 44 is put into position.
