UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE).-
H. FRANK OSBORNE, NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN .LEATHER-SPLlTTING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,948, dated July 18, 1876; application filed May 31, 1876. d
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, H. FRANK OSBORNE, of Newark, Essex county, New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Splitting- Machines for workers in leather; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawing annexed hereto.
Such machines are usually provided with a roller, adjustable at any required distance from the knife, that pieces of leather may be shaved to any required thickness between the two.
My improvements consist in certain novel supports for the roller-frame, and means for adjusting both ends of the roller at once.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the machine, and Fig. 2 a plan of the same.
The machine is provided with a plate, A, to which the splitting-knife B is attached. Upon'the plate, at each end of the knife, is a standard, (3 G, into which is fitted an adjustable box, D, carrying one end of a swing-frame, E, in which is hung the gage-roller F. To each box D is attached a rod, H, which passes from the box to and beyond the knife B, and
with its pivots m, and provided with boxes a at the ends to carry roller F.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the swing-frame E, roll F, springs O, and boxes D D above the plate A, with the connected wedges I I and screw K below the plate, and rods H H, for transmitting the motion from the wedges through plate A, in the manner described.
H. FRANK OSBORNE. Witnesses:
EDWIN STEPHENS, AUGUST H. TRIMPI.
