This invention relates to means for pumping water for irrigation purposes, through street mains, or the like. l e device is particularly adapted to be used where there is a natural water fall for supplying the necessary high pressure for pumping a stream of low pressure water.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device to utilize the power generated by a flowing stream of water, dam or the like to pump a lesser stream of water.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pump whose motive power is derived from themomentum of a stream of water delivered against a turbine wheel operatively connected to the pump piston.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having a high pressure inlet for directing the main flow of water against a turbine wheel, a branch inlet leading to the pump chamber and means to pump the portion of the water passing into the pump chamber as the turbine wheel rotates.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having means to divide the flow of water into two streams of different pressures so that the highpres sure stream willprovide the motive power to pump the water of the low pressure stream.
lVith toe above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.

Referring now to the drawings in detail numeral 1 designates the turbine casing provided with an inlet 2 at the top and an outlet 3 at the bottom. lVithin the casing is a main shaft 4 supported in bearings 5 formed in the side plates 6 and 7. Keyed to the main shaft is a turbine wheel '8 having radially spaced blades 9. 7
At one end of the main shaft is keyed a crank pin 10 having a pin ll at the end to which is attached a connecting rod 12. I The opposite end of the connecting rod is fastened to a guide 13 and piston 14 adapted to recipro cats in the pump cylinder 15. The pump cylinder is supported on the rib 16 fastened to the base 17. Leading from the high pressu're'inlet '2 to the pump cylinder is a low pressure inlet pipe 18. WVithin the pump cylinder ahead of the piston is a check valve 19 and adjacent thereto is an opening 20 for access to the check valve. The opening is provided with a leak proof cover plate 21. Numeral l8 designates a check valve to preventthe discharge of wa- 7'5 ter back into the inlet on the pressure stroke.
The operation ofthe device is as follows: WVater entering the high pressure inlet 2 will strike the concave surfaces of the blades 9 and cause them to rotate. As the turbine wheel rotates the connecting rod 12 will cause the piston 14 to reciprocate. On the right hand stroke water will enter the piston chamber and'on the left hand stroke the water will be forced out through the outlet 23 leading to street mains, irrigation ditches or the like. The check valve 19 will prevent any back pressure of the water in the outlet 23 to enter the pump cylinder as the piston moves to the right.
In Figures 8 and 4 is shown a modified form of the pump cylinder. In this form of the invention the piston 24 will pump water through each stroke. On the forward stroke Water will be forced through the outlet pipe 23 and on the-back stroke the water will be forced through the outlet 25. Numeral 27 designates the piston rod.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a simple, eflicient and practically inexpensive method of pumping water when conditions warrant the use of this device.
This device will deliver the water to any desired height, limited only by the quantity of main Water supply and size of machinery. 1'00 Besides it can also be used for power by attaching to the turbine shaft a pulley with which to drive machinery for lighting or other power purposes.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having described my invention, I claim In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing, of a turbine wheel having the usual vanes mounted in said casing on a shaft, inclined high pressure inlet and outlet pipes on the sameplane with each other leading to and from said casing, a low pres sure horizontally disposed outlet pipe, a reciprocating pump operatively connected to said turbine wheel, the inner end of said low pressure outlet pipe forming a cylinder for said pump, and means comprising a connecting pipe for admitting water from the said high pressure inlet to said pump cylinder before reaching the said turbine wheel.
