HERMAN F. VOSHARDT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO FRIEDLEY-VOSI-IARDT CO., OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION F ILLINOIS DISHWASHER Application led February 16, .1928. Serial No. 254,652.
My invention relates to the class of dishwashers described in my copending application, Serial No. 170,464, and has for its object, to improve the same by materially shortening the time required to bring the water in contact with the dishes to be Washed.
My invention has for its further object, to combine thc dishwasher with a cabinet, so that a necessary part of the cabinet will be an essential part of the dishwasher, and c0- act therewith to produce the desired result. It is well known that at soda fountains and serving counters, especially where large numbers are being served, every bit of available space is needed, hence to place in the fountain or serving counter a dishwasher having a hemispherical top, such as is illustrated in my copending application, would be impractical, therefore a fiat cover was essential, but when employed, the leakage of water was so bad as to prevent its successful use.
I have discovered that by placing an inwardly extending fiange or rib on the inner wall of the dishwasher adjacent its top, then mounting on the underside of the cover a depending member which will telescope inside the dishwasher and abut the said flange or rib, all leakage during the operation of washing dishes is eliminated. y
I also discovered that when the lid was raised to remove the dishes, the water on the cover would run down on to the floor, which was very objectionable. I overcome this diiiculty by providing a lip which will extend over the edge of the'dishwasher when the cover is raised into open position, and which will extend down inside the dishwasher when the cover is closed. In this Way I provide for a combination cabinet and dishwasher, having a dat top which may be used for serving, but which will securely seal the dishwasher and prevent leakage.
My means for accomplishing the Jforegoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings, which are hereunto annexed and made a art of this specification, in whichig. l is a view of my improved cabinet for 50 use in a serving table;
Similar reference numerals refer to simil lar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings, the cabinet 1 is located centrally between two serving tables, 2 and 3, though it will be obvious that it can be mounted in a similar way in a soda fountain. 'lhe cabinet 1 is provided with a door 4, which affords easy access to the interior, to take care of the mechanism for operating the dishwasher, which is suitably mounted inside the cabinet l, and is inside of a container 5. Pipe connections 6 are arranged to convey water from a source of supply (not shown), and a drain pipe 7 is provided to carry ofi' the soiled water. The dishwasher is mounted upon a shelf 8, and extends to the top 9 of the cabinet l. A cover 10 is suitably secured to the top 9 of the cabinet l, and when closed, as shown in Fig. l, provides additional table space for serving while the dishes (not shown) are being washed. On the inner surface l1 of the wall of the dishwasher ladjacent the top 9 of the cabinet 1, as clearly seen in Fig. 4, I mount a rib, or inwardly extending flange, 12, the t-op of which preferably slants downwardly and inwardly, so as to prevent any dirt, etc., lodging upon it. Upon the bottom of the cover 10 I mount a downwardly depending ange 13 which, when the cover l0 is closed, telescopes inside the container 5, abuts the rib 12, and efi'ectually seals the container. At the edge lof the flange 13 is located a lip 14 which, when the cover 10 is raised, extends over the edge of the container 5, and serves to carry back into the dishwasher any water adhering to the cover l0, thus permitting the raising of the cover 10 without the least danger of water dripping from the cover 10 on to the floor. y
Having thus described my invention, what I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
l. A dishwasher, comprising the combination, with a cabinet, of a cylindrical dish container, mounted in said cabinet, said container being connected to a source of water supply, a flat cover for said cabinet, said cover having an annular member thereon which iits said container, and a lip on said annular member which extends beyond the edge of said container when said cover is raised.
2. A dishwasher comprising a container, a flat cover therefor, an inwardly extending annular flange secured to the inner surface of said container adjacent its top, a downwardly depending annular flange secured to the underside of said cover, and a lip on said downwardly depending annular flange which extends beyond the edge of said container when said cover is raised.
3. A dishwasher, comprising the combination, with a cabinet, of a dish container, mounted in said cabinet, said container being connected to a source of Water supply, a flat cover for said cabinet, said cover having a member thereon which fits said container, and a lip on said member which eX- tends beyond the edge of said container when said cover is raised.
