IMPROVEMENT lN SHOE-LACE FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,806, dated July 11, 1876 application filed May 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatwe, JAMES WILLIAM Mo- DONALD, of Campbellton, Province of New Brunswick, Canada, and THOMAS ANTHONY MCDONALD, of Durham, Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, have invented a new and Improved Boot and Shoe. Lace Fastener; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being hadwto the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, inwhich- Figure lis a view in perspective of a boot to which our invention is applied; Fig. 2, a plan of the fastener. Figs. 3 and 4 are longitudinal sections of the same.
The invention relates to the ready, secure, and convenient fastening of lace-boot strings by novel means, which consist of two connected plates, the string being passed through, as well as between, the plates, and then cramped by the pressure, so that escape cannot readily occur.

As the plate B is more or less elastic, the string is cramped between the plates, and is prevented from escape by the rear projection W. In this manner each end of string is quickly and securely fastened, and yet so that it can be readily unfastened, while no tie is made across the leg to interfere with the circulation of blood in the extremities, or annoy the wearer by its pressure.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A boot or shoe lace fastener, consisting of plates A B conn'ected by stud C, and having, respectively, holes a a, b b, the plate B being also provided with projection b substantially as shown and described.
