Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JOSEPH ARKINs, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,756, dated July 11, 1876; application filed June 17, 1876.
To all whom zt may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH ARKINS, of Ghicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Weather-Strips; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part oi'this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a horizontal section of my weather-strip, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 aredetail views of the weather-strip.
This invention relates to weatherstrips for windows; and it consists in a parting strip or bead provided on one side with a rubber weather-strip for the upper sash, and on the other side with a similar strip for the lower sash, the two weather-strips being united at the top of one and the bottom of the other by a cross-strip, which corresponds in position to the meeting-rail, and protects the open space thereat.
' In the annexed drawings, A designates the window-frame; B, the upper sash, and- B the lower sash. O is the parting-bead, which is longitudinally grooved on one side at 0, and
on the other side at c. Groove 0 begins at the top, and runs down as far as the meetingrail of the sash, while the other groove begins at the same point on the opposite side of partweather-strips, one protecting each sash and one the space at the meeting-rail.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with weather strip or strips,
a parting-strip grooved on one side in its upper part, and on the other side inits lower part, and provided with a cross-groove opposite the meeting-rail, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that 1 claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH ARKINS.
Witnesses WM. J. MARTIN, MAURICE ARKINS.
