In the embodiment of the invention herein described there are preferably two of the setting shanks, although there may, of course be more. In addition, I preferably employ at least one clamping shank as at &0 (Fig. 1) This has a pivoted hand lever 41.
In use the shanks 4 are screwed outwardly a suflicient'distance to free the pins 52 from the sockets 61;"then, if the shank is to be set for a different size, the collar is turned until its pins occupy the desired sockets; then the shank is turned in until the inner face of the collar 50 abuts the boss 3 of the annular frame, and this insures the shank being in proper position for the selected size of pipe. With the two shanks 4 thus positioned, the pipe is clamped by screwing in the shank 40 until there is a firm engagement with the ends of the three shanks;
The described embodiment is simple and inexpensive of manufacture, and has the advantage of being adapted to both standard and odd sized work.
Having'thus described my invention, what I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Ina work holder, a body, a threaded shank threaded t-hereinto and having a head at its outer end, an adjustable stop on said shank and having opposed rearwardly extending pins, and said head having a circumferential series of surface recesses to receive said pins, said recesses being of different depths and opposed ones of the same being of the same depth.
2-.The combination of a body, a shank movable thereinto, and a variable stopping device comprising two mutually engageable members one of which is an abutmentand the other of which is a shoulder on the shank, one of said members having a plurality of laterally positioned steps of different height,
one of said members being mounted to turn to select a different step for engagement.
4.-. The combination of an annular body, a radial screw threaded therein and having a head, an abutment bearing against the body and mountedto turn about an axis, the head and abutment cooperating and one of them having a series of steps arranged in a cir cuit about its axis, whereby by turning the abutment a diiferent step may be selected and a different limit for the screw thus provided.
5. The combination of a body, a screw threaded therein and provided with a head,
a rotatable abutment between the head and through the boss and body and having its axis at right angles to the face of the boss, a rotatable abutment bearing against such face of the boss and having its axis at right angles thereto, a head on the screw, said head and abutment cooperating and one of them being provided with a set of steps any one of which the other may engage according to the angular position of the abutment relative to its axis.
' 7. The combination of a body, a shank threaded thereinto, and a variable stopping device comprising two mutually engageable members one of which is an abutment rotatably surrounding the shank and the other of which is a shoulder on the shank, one of said members having a plurality of laterally positioned steps of different height, whereby the inward movement of the shank may be variably limited according to the angular )osition of the surrounding member relative to the shank.
8.. The combination of an annular body, a radial screw threaded therein and having a head, a rotatable abutment freely surrounding the screw and bearing against the body, the head and abutment cooperating and one of them having a series of steps which the other may selectively engage, said series extending in a circuit about the axis of the screw.
9. The combination of an annular body having an external boss, a screw threaded through the boss and body and having its axis at right angles to the face of the boss, a rotatable abutment freely surrounding the screw bearing against such face of the boss, a head on the screw, said head and abutment cooperating and one of them being provided with a series of steps any one of which the other may engage according to the angular position of the abutment. I
