IMPROVEMENT IN FAUCETS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,722, dated July 11, 1876; application filed May 22, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HILAR OHNMAGHT and ROBERT WEISS, of New Orleans, New Orleans parish, and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Faucet, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section on line X X, Fig. 2, ot' our faucet; Fig. 2, a front view of the same; and Fig. 3, a side view of the key for opening the faucet.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The invention relates to an improved faucet for beer and other barrels, by which they may be tapped with great facility without loss of liquid, and by which the driving in ofthe faucets and consequent dama-ge to the barrelheads, and the use of the casks, will be dispensed with. v

The-invention consists of a solid plug screwed into the bushing of the faucethcle, and provided with a smaller turning plug, having a curved exit-channel that communicates with a similar channel of the cylindrical plug, so

4as to connect and disconnect the channels,

and thereby close or open the faucet.

A curved channel, e, extends from the inside end of plug to the side of the same, and a similar channel, e', from channel e through the outer fixed plug to the outside, where it communicates with a faucet, D, screwed into a sockethole of the fixed plug B below the turning plug. When the smaller plug G is turned by the key, so that the channels of both plugs communicate, the contents of the barrels may be drawn olf; and when the connection ot the channels is discontinued the faucet is closed. The barrel is tapped by simply screwing in the faucet, and turning the tapering plug by the key until the liquid issues. The faucet is closed by turning the key and interrupting the connection of the Thus, a simple and convenien tly-operating faucet and lock that remains stationary in the barrel is produced, and thereby the tapping of barrels in an instant, and without any loss, accomplished by any one.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
