7 ATTACHMENT FOR SOUND REPRODUCING MACHINES Filed Feb. 26, 1929 INVEQJTOR fzvl ge Lazag A'I'TO EY Patented Mar. 17, 1931 GEORGE LAING, OFiGALGARY, ALBERTA, CAN ADA .A'ITACHIi/IEN'I. FOR SOUND-REPRODUCING MACHINES Application filed. February 28, 1829, Serial No. 342,860, and in Canada July 20, 1928.
.provide the attachment with an adjustable or movable screen arranged as a closure for said discharge opening but of such a nature as to not materially interfere with the transmission of sound therethrough; a further object being to provide means for eliminating the stage representation or chamber of the attachment in pleasing color effects; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a oevice of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construc tion, eiiicient in use and which is constructed e as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the attachment, part of the construction being broken away and in section.
Fig. 2 is a sectional, plan view taken on the line -00 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation; and,
Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing part of a gramophone or other apparatus in section.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the attachment proper which as will be seen, adapted to be supported in connection with a gramophone 2 or the cabinet or casing of other reproducing or transmitting apparatus of any kind or class. At 3 and 4:, I have shown two doors hinged to the casing 2 at opposite sides of an opening 2a formed therein, through which opening, the sound or is in the form of a miniature stage,
tone transmitted from the apparatus is adapted to pass.
Hook-shaped supportingbrackets 5 and 6 are adjustably supported .in connection with the side walls 7 and 8 of the attachment .1, and said walls are preferably inclined backwardly to form a'n-Jarrow'er rear end portion as clearly :seen in Fi 2 of the drawing. The brackets are adapted .to hang over the top edges '9 and 10 of the doors as clearly seen 1Il.FlgS. 1,2 and t ofthedrawing. Ar ranged at the back of the attachment is a screen 12 which is .mou-nted upon rollers 1-3 and 1& located in the upper :and lower portions of theattachment, said screen being capable of upward and downward movement by the rotation of knobs 15 and :16 provided at one end otcach roller.
VVit-hthis construction, atpleasing, appropriate or harmonizingscene printechpa-inted or otherwise applied to the screen may be brought toview withinthe cabinet or at the rear portion of the stage representation formedthereby. This scene maybe varied from time to time tobe consistent withthe music or other selection played by the apparatus in connection with which the attachmentis employed.
I also preferably arrange fat the top 17 of the attachment, a plurality of electricbu'lbs preferably of diiterentjcolorsin orderto provide difierent color efiectathe electrica'lconnections and control being cared for along conventional lines. A plurality of small holes 18 are also preferably formed in the frieze of "the 'entablature at the frontof the attachment-to allow the'heat from the bulbs to pass'through the same and at the same time to form small lights in frontof the stage.
I Portable figures or scene pieces such as indicatedat '19 may be used'upon the stageto increase the attractiveness of the stage'setting, and again, these figures arepreferably consistent with the selection or reproduction which is transmitted tromfth'e apparatus'in connection with which the attachment is employed.
It willbeunderstood that my inven'tion is not necessarily limited to the specifiqstr-ucof the doors,
tural details herein shown and described, nor to the manner of supporting or arranging the attachment, and various other changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended cliams, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. An attachment in combination with gramaphones and other musical devices, constructed to rest and lie between the doors of the same when open, the attachment having hooks or supports to fit and take the top edge a screen having scenes thereon, said screen being carried by rollers, the screen being capable of movement to change the scenes, substantially as set forth.
2. An attachment in combination with gramaphones and other musical devices constructed to rest and lie between the doors of the same when open, the attachment having Q, hooks or supports to fit and take the top edges of the doors, a screen having scenes thereon, said screen being carried by rollers, the screen being capable of movement to change the scenes as desired, lighting arrangement for different colored lights, holes in the front of the attachment, all substantially for the purpose as set forth.
3. An attachment formed as a stage in combination with gramaphones and other musical devices constructed to rest and lie between the doors of the same, hooks or supports to fit and take the top edge of the doors, a screen having scenes thereon, said screen being carried by rollers, the screen being capable of movement to change the scenes, lighting arrangement for diflerent colored lights, all as a stage setting for the purpose of conveying to an audience the atmosphere of the theatre substantially as described and set forth.
4. An attachment formed as a stage setting, means for detachably supporting said attachment in connection with a sound reproducing apparatus to arrange the same in the path of the transmission of sound from said apparatus, and said attachment including a shiftable scene element disposed in the path of said sound and through which the sound is free to pass.
5. An attachment formed as a stage setting, means for detachably supporting said attachment in connection with a sound reproducing apparatus to arrange the same in the path of the transmission of sound from said apparatus, said attachment including a shiftable scene element disposed in the path of said sound and through whichthe sound is free to pass, said attachment comprising a casing, the front and back walls of which are open, the front wall being characterized to represent a stage, and means for illuminating the interior of said casing.
6. An attachment formed as a stage setting, means for detachably supporting said attachment in connection with a sound reproducing apparatus to arrange the same in the path of the transmission of sound from said apparatus, said attachment including a shiftable scene element disposed in the path of said sound and through which the sound is free to pass, said attachment comprising a casing, the front and back walls of which are open, the front wall being characterized to repre sent a stage, and means for illuminating the interior of said casing and scene elements supported within said casing.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name this 19th day of February, 1929.
GEORGE LAING.
