My invention relatesto improvements in medicine container, dose cup and stopper combined, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a medicine container, dose cup and stopper combined which makes use of a cup that is a ready-to-hand measuring and administering device for doses of the liquid contained within the bottle, the cup acting as a substitute for a spoon or other means now in vogue for measuring and administering doses of medicine and the like, and the cup also acting as a stopper and taking the place of the ordinary cork stopper.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described in which the exterior surface is provided with two surfaces having different diameters, and a conical surface connecting the first two together. The conical surface cooperates with a conical seat in the bottle for providing a liquid-tight connection when the device is in place. The surface having the lesser diameter isspaced away from the neck of the bottle for permitting the device to be readily removed.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which is extremely simple in construction and which is durable and efficient for the purpose intended.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the specification proceeds, and the novel features of the device will be particularly pointed out in what I hereinafter claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bottle showing my device operatively applied thereto, the device and the neck of the bottle being r shown in section for clarity; and

In carrying out my invention, I make use of a bottle 1 which may be of any shape desired, of any size, and constructed of any material. The neck 2 of the bottle is preferperspective view of the de- 1928. Serial No. 289,460.
ably cylindrical, although I do not wish to be confined to this particular shape. A conical seat 3 is provided at the top of the neck 2 as shown in Figure 1. 7
The device comprises a cup-shaped stopper indicated generally at 4. This stopper has a cylindrical outer surface 5 of a larger diam eter than the, surface 6. A conical-shaped surface 7 is interposed between the first two surfaces, and this surface contacts with the seat 3 for making a liquid-tight seal. The seat 3 and the surface 7 are ground true so as to be air and fluid tight.
The outer diameter of the portion 6 is less than the inner diameter of the neck 2, and I therefore provide a space 8 between the neck and the portion 6.
Graduation marks 9 may be stamped or otherwise applied on the outer surface of the device. These marks designate the quantity of fluid contained within the cup.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood.
The cup is normally inverted and acts as a stopper for the bottle 1. The portion 7 is the only one that contacts with the bottle. The portion 5 closely resembles an ordinary stopper, while the portion 6 is concealed and is spaced from the neck for permitting the ready removal of the device from the bottle. The cup when inverted is protected by the neck 2 and thus keeps dust and insects away from the cup and provides one which is sanitary and ready for instant use. This is a great advantage over a spoon, which is usually left on a shelf where it will collect dust.
Any residual drops of a dose left in a cup will drip or drain back into the bottle or container, which is an improvement over other devices in which such drips fall on the outside of the container, resulting in an unsanitary and a disagreeable condition of the bottle or container for future handling.
The novelly designed stopper and bottle provides a device which is simplicity itself and has a directness when operated which eliminates lost motion. In administering a dose, only four movements are necessary from the taking out of the cup 4 to its replacement in the bottle. When the cup is disposedin place, a compact combination is the result, the dose cup being quite unobstructive since its major portion is concealed in the neck of the bottle and only a sufficient portion is exposed for affording an easy grasp for the removal of the cup. Hence the general appearance or the exposed portion of "the cup Will be that of a stopper and not of a cup. The markings 9 may be letters or numbers, and indicate graduated doses of one teaspoon each or otherdesignated quantity. The grinding of surface '7 makes it opaque.
I therefore provide a strip 10 Which is transparent and this cuts across graduation lines numbered 1 and 2. 3 The filling of one or two teaspoonful dosesmay now be seen, because I l the liquid'vvill show through the transparent strip 10. The graduation marks extend a 1 slight distance beyond the sides of the transarent portion.
Although I have SllOWIl'ELIlCl described one embodimentof my invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of various 5 changes, and I reserve the right to employ such changes as may come Within the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim: 1. The combination With a bottle having a a0 neck portion with a conical-shaped seat, of
a cup-shaped stopper having a conical portion receivable by the seat, and a cylindrical portion receivable in the bottle neck and being spaced from the inner Wall of'the neck.

The combination with a bottle having a neck'with a conical-shaped seat, of a cupshaped stopper having 'a cylindrical portion of the same diameter as thelarger diameter of the conical seat, a-second cylindrical porg'tion of. a smaller diameter than the lesser diameter of the conical seat, and a conicalshaped portion receivable by the seat, the surface of lesser diameter being spaced from the inner Wall of the bottle neck when the 5 stopper is in place.
