Description
March 10, 1931. DERN 1,795,387
VALVE Filed May 13, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet l L. DERN VALVE March 10, 1931.
F'iled May 13, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 In venior .Zaazls Jena- A ttorney Patented Mar. 10, 1931 ET STATS LOUIS DERN, OF FOREST PAR-K, ILLINOIS VALVE' Application filed May 13,
The present invention relates generally to valves and more particularly to looks therefor and the prime object of the invention resides in the provision of locking means to e prevent the rotation of a valve in its casing.
and the removal therefrom.
A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a structure of this nature which is simple, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to assemble. and disassemble, thoroughly eflicient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
WVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as 20 will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of the valve embodying the features of my invention,
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof,
Figure 3 is a section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a detail elevation of the plunger lock bar, and
Figure 6 is a detail elevation of the inside partof the valve.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the letter B denotes generally the valve casing including a cylinder 5 having intermediate its ends alined tapering bearings 6 and 7 the latter being larger than the former. The bearing 7 is provided with an interior recess 8.
The letter A denotes generally the inside part of the valve which is provided with a hollow intermediate portion 10 tapering toward one end which is solid as at 11 and terminates in threaded stem 12 and the larger end of the hollow body.10 terminates in a solid portion 14 having a reduced hollow extension 15 the exterior of which is noncircular so that a handle may be engaged thereon to turn the inside part of the valve.
1929. Serial No. 362,809.
A hollow body or intermediate portion 10 is provided with longitudinally extending oppositely disposed slots 16 adapted to be brought into registry with the slot 17 provided in the casing C to communicatethe in- 5:; let with the outlet of'the casing.-
A jamb washer 19 is disposed about the stem 12 and a take up nut 20 is engaged on the stem 12 to tighten the inside part of the valve, in the casing. A radial pocket 22 is formed in the end 14 to receive a slidable elunger lock bar 23 the inner end of which is provided with a transverse slot 24.
A cylinder lock is disposed in the hollow extension 15 and comprises a casing 26 with a barrel 27 of the key actuated type therein. On the inner end of the barrel 27 there is mounted a disk 28 by means of a screw 29 or in any other suitable manner. An eccentrically mounted pin 30 is disposed on the disk 28 and extends through the slot 24.
Obviously by turning the barrel 2'? the plunger lock bar may be moved outwardly to engage in the keeper 8 thereby preventing the rotation of the inside part of the valve 7 and also preventing the removal thereof but when the key actuated barrel is rotated to" move the plunger lock bar inwardly the inside 5 of the valve may be easily rotatedto turn the valve on or shut the same off as will be quite apparent.
It is thought that the construction, operae tion, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent without a more detail description thereof. a
Set pins 34 are preferably keyed to hold the cylinder lock stationary inside the hollow extension 15 and are inaccessible as long as the parts are properly assembled as will be clearly illustrated in Figure 3.
The present embodiment of the invention, however, has been disclosed merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention andthe above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit,
or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
A valve structure of the character described comprising a casing having a tapered seat therein provided with a recess in one side, a tapered core mounted for rotation on the seat, a keeper plate mounted for radial sliding movement in the core and engageable in the recess in a manner to releasably retain the core against rotation and having a transverse slot therein, a key operated lock cylinder rotatably mounted in one end portion of the core and having one end in opposed relation to the keeper plate, a disk adjustably secured on said one end of the lock cylinder intermediate said cylinder and the keeper plate, and a pin mounted eceentrically on the disk and extending into the slot in a manner to operatively connect the keeper plate to the lock cylinder for actuation thereby.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
LOUIS DERN.
