Description

F. BAUMAN FLYER MOUNT March 3, 1931.
Filed Sept. 25. 1928 [III],
awuaufom RB all/man Patented Mar. 3, 1931 UNITED STATES FRANK BAUMAN, or HONESDALE, PENNSYLVANIA FIiYER um.
Application filedfseptember 25,'1 928. Ser ia1 No. 308,233.
The invention relates to twisting mechanism for spinning machines and provides a flyer and mount of unique structure cap-able of being cheaply manufactured, and which is light and adapted to be retained upon the spindle when applied thereto Without liability of displacement.
' The invention consists of a hollow metal holder, a filler therein of soft rubber or analogous material, a sheet metal retainer, interengaging elements, such as interfitting collars, between the retainer and holder, and a two armed fiyer mounted upon the retainer and held thereto by means of ears partly cut from the retainer and bent about the flyer.
WVhile the drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the means to meet specific needs and requirements, the de sign may be varied and changes in the minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the invention as claimed, without departing from the spirit thereof.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the drawing hereto attached, in which:'
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a bobbin and spindle of ordinary construction, and a flyer embodying the invention in cooperative relation therewith.
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the flyer and mount and a portion of a spin dle, the outer ends of the arms of theflyer being broken away.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4: is an enlarged, fragmentary sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawing by like reference characters. 7
The numeral 1 designates a spindle and 2 a bobbin mounted thereon. These parts may be of any well known construction'and are illustrated to demonstrate the application of the invention which resides in the flyer and parts passociatedtherewith and forming the mount. 1
The numeral 3 denotes the holder which. is hollow and formed of sheet metal pressed or otherwiseshaped substantially as illustrated.
The holder is of circularoutline-and formed on its upper side, with a collar comprising portions 4 and 5, the part 4: being constricted and the part 5 outwardly bulged. An insert 6, preferably of soft rubber,- is fitted within the body portion of the holder and is formed centrally with an opening to receive the spindle 1, upon which it is held by frictional engagement of the insert 6. therewith.
A retainer, comprising a sheet metal plate 7, has a collar 8 pressed laterally therefrom and outwardly bulged to snugly receive the outwardly bulged portion 5 of the collar on the holder whereby to secure the part without any binding action so that the retainer is free to rotate. As shown most clearly in Figure 2 of the drawing the retainer is elongated or elliptical in outline and ears 9 are partly cut from opposite end'portions and pressed laterally and bent to engage about the middle portion 10 of the flyer adjacent the inner ends of the arms 11.
In this manner the flyer is secured to the retainer without necessitating the provision of extraneous fastening means. The interfitting of theelements 5 and 8 prevent displacement of the retainer while admitting of its free rotation upon the holder which is heldupon the spindle 1 by means of the filler 6.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. A flyer mount for a bobbin spindle comprising a holder having a central opening, and having a collar upon its top side in line with the opening, said collar having a portion outwardly bulged, a rubber insert in the holder to secure the flyer on the spindle, and a retainer loose on the holder having a collar on its bottom side outwardly bulged to receive the corresponding outwardly bulged portion of the holder collar.
2. A flyer mount for abobbin spindle comprising a plate having a spindle receiving opening and a collar in line with the opening and outwardly bulged, and having ears partly cut therefrom, a flyer having its middle portion curved to embrace the collar between the outer bulge thereof and the plate and 5 held in place by the ears bent therearound adjacent the ends of the curved portion, a holder loosely supporting the said plate, and inter-engaging means between the plate and holder to maintain them in assembled relatlOIl. V
3. A fiyer mount for a bobbin spindle comprising a hollow holder in which is formed a central opening, and having a collar" on its top side in line with the opening and out- Wardly bulged, a packing insert Within the holder, a plate having a spindle receiving opening and a collar in line with the opening and outwardly bulged to receive thebulged portion of the holder collar, and having ears partlycut therefrom, and a fiyer having its middle portion curved to embrace the collar and held in place by the said ears which are bent therearound adjacent the ends of the curved portion. In testimony whereof I af'ix my signature.
