Description

March 3, 1931. c. DOERR 1,795,110
MULTIPART ARTICULATED REENFORCED CONCRETE SLEEPER Filed Oct. 2. 192s:
l w I n at overlapping one another at their adjacent V Patented Mar. 3, 1931 1 UNITED STATES CARL DOERR, 0F NAUMBURG-ON-THE-SAALE, GERMANY portion after a short time.
PATENT; OFFICE MULTIPQET ARTICULATED REENFORCED-CONCRETE SLEEPER Applicationfiled October 2, 1929, Serial No. 396,714, and in Germany May 30, 1927.
By the wheel loads acting simultaneous upon both ends of the reenforced concrete sleepers these latter are subjected to bending stresses in their middle portion in so infavorable a manner that they break at this In order to overcome this drawback the reenforced concrete sleepers have already been divided into two equal parts and these latter have been yieldingly jointed to one another in the middle portion of the sleeper by means of bolts.
The improved reenforced concrete sleeper forming the subject-matter of this invention is also twopart and the bolt Or pivot connecting theseparts with one another is arranged vertically in a socket in which it has some play.
The invention is illustrated diagrammatically and by way of example on the accom J panylng drawing on which Figure 1 is a sidev1ew of a multipart or twopart reenforced concrete sleeper designed according to this lnvention; Figure 2 1s a plan thereof, and
Figure 3 a. vertical section through the connecting bolt or pivot and the cooperating socket, this figure being drawn to an enlarged I 0 and d areshown in Figs. 1 and 2 only in dotted lines, but are shown separately in full 'lines and on a larger scalein Fig. 3. The
frontal faces at the ends of the projections a and b are not actually vertical, but are a little inclined, and the adjoining horizontal V faces are a little convex, asshown in F igsl 1 and 2. Owing to this configuration of the projections and to the plays between the mem- 1. A multipart articulated reenforced concrete sleeper, comprising two sleeper halves one another; a vertical socket in one of said projections, and a bolt in the other projection, this bolt extending into said socket and having some play therein.
3. A multipart articulated reenforced concrete sleeper, comprising two sleeper halves having each a projection directed towards the other half, the two projections overlapping one another; a vertical socket in one of said projections, and a bolt in the other projection,
this bolt extending into said socket and tapering at its free end, substantially as set forth. In testlmony whereof I afiix my signature.
