UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE,
PHINEAS JONES, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.-
IMPROVEMENT IN TROTTlNG-WAGONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,479, dated July 4, 1876; application filed June 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHINEAS JONES, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new Improvement in Trotting-Wagons; and I do herebydeclare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same,
and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a top or plan view, and in Fig. 2
a side View.
This invention relates to an improvement in that class of vehicles used for trotting purposes, commonly called skeleton-wagons.
The object of the invention is to construct a wagon lighter and stronger, but yet without the iron bracing of the usual construction,
crowned up to the seat B, the curved front being of longer radius than in the rear, and
curved inward, as seen in Fig. 1, so as to give the transverse support to the seat. The seat is made fast to the bars. The sides 0 consist of a wood bar, extending from front to rear, and thus prevent the spreading of the framework fore and aft.
By this construction a very strong wagon is produced, and without other iron work or bracing than the clips or bolts which are necessary to secure the parts together, the form of the bars A giving all the bracing support necessary.
I claim- In atrotting-wagon, the vertically and transversely curved bars A, rigidly attached to the frame at their forward and rear ends, 00111- bined with a seat arranged on the said bars, all substantially as specified.
