This invention relatesto leggings and has for its object to provide a deviceof this char-' acter which is more eflicient in use, less costly to manufacture and more pleasing in appear- 5 an'ce than those heretofore proposed.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts as will be more fully hereinafter disclosed and particu- Iie larly pointed out in the claims. I

In order that this invention may be the better understood it is said that heretofore leggings have been provided which are either 553 form fitting or else have beenprovided with fastening means which necessitated considerablework upon the part ofthe wearer in putting on or taking oif. In other words, such leggings have had long rows of buttons, or a 111 lon r lacing which had to-be wound through eyel ets or over hooks,-or the leggings have been formed of relativelynarrow strip material which'had tobe wound spirally about the leg. The application of the legging to the leg is as follows. The legging is applied With the stirrup l0 placed under the shoe in advance of the heel with the reinforcing member 2 extending vertically along the inner side of the leg. The ,main body portion ofthe legging is then Wrapped or folded about the leg and the button-hole engaged by the button 14. The main body portion is provided with a reinforcing member disposed along one edge thereof, the bottom of said member being laterally extend-, ed in a direction toward the toe to lit around the ankle bone, and then the forward exten sion is bent downwardly and in under the shoe to form a stirrup which coacts with the heel and sole of the shoe to form a rigid brace for the legging. Also fastening means comprising a hook 20 and an eye 21 maybe provided to constrict the lower portion of the legging about theankle.

The flap 12 in passing about the rear of the leg immediately above the heel is givena substantial bend due to the relative thin dimension of that portion of the leg and when the secondary wrapping is drawn over said flap in applying the legging, there will be created a substantial resistance tending to prevent the displacement of the flap with relation to the leg. This relation of parts further assists in maintaining the legging in It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction as well as arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention and it is therefore not desired to be limited to the foregoing except as may be required by the claims.

What is claimed is 1. In a legging the combination of a main body portion of a length to extend from, the ankle to the knee and of a width to pass around aleg'throughout said length, said portion provided with an extension carrying a flare; and fastening means carried by said body portion and said extension to secure the same at the inner and outer upper extremities ofthe extension leaving the flare unconfined, said means adapted'to coactwith the leg to support the legging.

In a legging the combination of a main body portion of a length to extend from "the ankle to the knee and of a width to pass around a leg throughout said length forming a single thickness about the leg, said; portion provided with an extension carrying a flare and adapted to form a second thickness about a portion of the leg; means to secure the upper outer end of said extension to the top of said body portion; and fastening means carried by said body portion and said extension, said last named means adapted to coact with the leg to support the legging.

In'a'legging the combination of a main body portion of a length to extend from the ankle to the knee and of a width to pass around a leg throughout said length forming a'single thickness about the leg,-said portion provided with an extension carrying a flare and adapted toform a second thickness about a portion of the leg; meansto secure the outer upper end of said extension to said body portion leaving said flare unconfined; and fastening means carried by said body portion and said extension, said last named means adapted to coact with the leg to support the legging.

{L In a device of the character described the combination of a main body portion adapted to be wrapped about the leg; a reinforcing member disposed along one edge of said body portion and adapted to extend beneath the foot; and fastening means disposed at the top of said body portion for supporting the rectangular main body portion adapted to 7 form -a covering of single thickness when wrapped about a leg, said portion provided with an extension at the lower corner of one side thereof adapted to engage the back of the leg immediately above the heel, and said portion further provided with a second and larger extension at the other side. edge thereof'said last named extension adapted to form a second protective covering of a portion of the leg; and means tosecure said legging to a leg.

7. A legging comprising a main body portion providing a single wrapping for a leg,

said portion having an extension providing a second wrapping over the shin, fastening means forsecuring the legging to the leg, and a reinforcing member along one edge of said portion adapted to engage a fastener to constrict the legging about the ankle. 8..
