My invention relates to the cooling of liquids such as beverages and has ,for its object to rovide a new and eicient cooling coil that w' maintain a constant low temperature for 5 liquids or beverages suitable for all domesl5 the coil intol the beverage and one in which all connections are made outside of the beverage container.
A still further object is to provide a cooling system which will maintain a constant zo temperature longer and will cool oi' the incoming beverage quicker than has `hereto fore been accomplished, so that there will be a constant supply of cool beverage in the container at all times. These objects II accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughoutI the several views and as described in the specication formin a part of this application and pointed out 1n the appended claims. f
In the drawings in which I have shown the best and most preferred manner of building my invention Fi e 1 is a side elevation of my invention w1th parts of the container shown in dotted lines. Figure 2 is a section of the cover plate and the upper portion of my coil showing the connecting means employed to connect thecoils to the cover and the inlet and outlet pipes.
In the drawin s in which I have shown the container in w 'ch Amy cooling coils are mounted as A, having an opening in the top end thereof over which the cover plate B- of my device is laced and secured by the bolts 1. Central y on the lower side of the said cover plate I. rovide a cylindrical casing 2, having -a er plug 3 through the cover plate B through which fluids may be passed.
Toone side of theA said casing and in open i connection therewith I secure one end of a large coil. 5, made by bending a pipe 6 intol a spiral .coil with one end of the said spiral coiled plpe 6 bent upwardly alon one 1nner s1de of the said coil to the cover B, where it is secured therethrough with the opening in the end of thesaid pipe 7 closed, and centrally perforated. Centrally` within the said casing 2 I provide another and smaller `casing which is termed an accumulator pot 10, which pot is suspended therein by a small pipe 14. A smaller coiled pipe 11 of smaller diameter than the pipe 6 is placed within the said pipe 6 being surrounded thereby and one end of the said pipe 11is secured to the said pot 10 in open connection therewith and the other end 11a is brought upwardly through the end 7 of the pipe 6 and out through the perforated end of the said pipe 7, and in the free end thereof I ,provide a control valve 13, to control the 4flow of liquid through the pipe and coil, and into the pot 10. An outlet pipe 14 is then secured to the top side of the said pot 10 and in open connection therewith, and the free end of the said pipe 14 is passed up throughthe cover plate B and is secured thereto by suitable means. I then provide a bracket 8 on the bottom end of the pot 10 and this bracket under the pot with the pipe 14 support the pot 10 within the casing 2. The outer free end of the said pipe 14 is provided with a valve 15 to control the iow of liquid therefrom. Both valves 13 and 15 are provided so that the entire assembly may be properly charged and tested on kthe bench of the manurefrigerating system to which my-inventioi is connected, and also to addeto the cooling c apacity of the entire machine. It also actsas a receiver and reserve capacity for the refrigf erant, to insure suiiicient volume of refrigerant for the best results and to eliminate .lengthened and the casing 2 lengthened to near thebottom of the coil 5 and in this modiication I extend the pipe 11 and bend 1t downwardly to near the bottom of the casing 2 and p then form it into a coil 11b around the outer surface of the accumulator pot 10 and the top end of the coil 11b is then introduced into the pot 10 near the top end thereof. This construction enables me to have a greater cooling surface around the pot 10 and within the casing 2 thereby giving greater eiiiciency to the device where different forms of the device are desired and where greater cooling is necessary.
The operation of my device is as follows:
Glycerine or some other nonfreezing solution is introduced into the casing 2 through the plug 3, and the casing and coil 5 are filled,
with allowance made for expansion and con@ traction. .The control valve 13 is connected with the inlet end of a refrigerating system and the valve 15 is connected with t e outlet end making a complete circuit through the valve 13, down through the pipe 11a and up throughthe .coil pipe 11, the pot 10 and out through the pipe 14 and the valve 15, back to the system.
It will be obvious that the inlet and outlet pipes of the system might be mounted through-the side walls of a container rather than through the top without departing from tie spirit of the invention or the scope of the c aims.
Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:
1. In a cooling system for beverages the combination of a cover plate, a casing secured on the inner side thereof; a coil havin one end secured in open connection with said casing and the other end bent upwardly and secured to the cover late; another casing Secured said mentioned casing; a coll of pipe of smaller diameter than the iirst mentioned coil carried therein and havmg one end secured to said last mentioned caslng above the bottom thereof and the other end passed upwardly and out through the top end of sa1d first mentioned coil 5 a pipe connectmg said second mentioned casmg with l the outlet pipe of a refrigerating system; a
valve 1n said connection to control the ow j of liquid therethrough; y and another valve connecting the refrigerating system with the free end of said inner coil.
2. In a rerigerating system for beverages the combination of va coil Within a coil with one end of the outer coil closed and the other end secured to a casing; an accumulator t within the casing and with the top portlon thereof in open connection with one end of said inner coil; a pipe connecting the top 'of said pot with a refrigeratin system; a valve connecting the free end of t e said inner coil with the other lead line of the refrlgeratmg system; and valves to control the ulow of rerigerant to and from said inner coll.
3. In a cooling system for beverages the combination of mounting a casing on the under side of the cover of the beverage container; an accumulator pot secured within said casing; a large coil having one end closed and the other4 end secured to and in open'connection with said casing; asmaller coil carried in said large coil and having one end secured to the upper portion of said pot and the other end secured through the cover; a pipe connected through the top of said cover and to said pot; and valves to control the owof refrigerant into, through and out of said 1nner coil.
