To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADALBERT STARK, of Munich, Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany, have invented a new and Improved Portable Cooking Apparatus, of which the following is a specitication This invention relates to an improved' portable cooking apparatus, to which the hea-t is imparted by a kerosene or other lamp, or by equivalent means.

The invention has for itsobject to utilize all the heat evolved by the llame, and to retain the same in contact with the culinary vessel, so that thereby the cooking operation is accelerated and fuel saved.

The invention consists, first, in inclosing the culinary vessel in a surrounding box, into whichv the heat is introduced, and which is provided at its inner side with suitable brackets for the support ofthe culinary vessel.v The invention also consists in the means for locking down the cover of the culinary vessel, and in other details of construction hereinafter more fully pointed out.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a vertical central section of my improved cooking apparatus. Fig. 2 is a top view thereof; Fig. 3, a detail side view of one of the vertical arms of the locking-frame.

The letter A represents thebase or support of my improved cooking apparatus. The same is preferably constructed of two horizontal plates, ct, and b, one directly above the other.v

The upper of these plates b is perforated at its center to allow the upper part and burner c of a lamp that is placed upon the lower plate t to pass through the same, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1. B is a box or case, open at top and bottom, of suitable size and form, and supported on the foot A, to surround the lamp U. This box B, which I prefer to make of wood, may be lined with a coating composed of ashes and glass, or of other suitable material to increase its non-conductibility of heat. At its outer sideithe box B maybe covered'with sheet-iron, if desired. The box B is closed on top by a lid or cover, D. To the inner side ofthe box B are secured suitable brackets d d for the Dand the box B, as shown.

.The vessel E maybe made of metal or other material, and should be of a considerable smaller' diameter than the inner diameter of the box B, so that an air-space is left between the vessel E and the inner side of the box B.

that may be closed hermetically upon the vessel E by a frame, F, which straddles the cover This frame F is composed of a horizontal top bar, e, and of two vertical bars,ff, `as shown. The bars ff are hook-shaped at their lower ends, Fig. 3, to engage over pins g gthat project from the outer side of the box B, while the horizontal bare is provided with a suitable screw, h, by which the cover D may be pressed upon the vessel E.

An air-opening, z', should be left in the lower part of the box B for feeding fresh air to the flame.

In using this apparatus the matter to be cooked is first placed into the vessel E, which is thereupon closed and placed upon the brackets d within the box B. The cover D is now closed upon the box, so that it will rest on the cover cx, and the frame F is properly placed over the same, with the hook-shaped arms ff engaging the pins gg, and the screw h screwed down upon the cover D, causing it to close the cover eX hermetically. upon the vessel E. The

fiame is now ignited below the vessel E. The

heat evolved will be confined within the box B, embrace the vessel E, and affect the same at its bottom and sides in the desired manner.

The cooking operation will, therefore, be greatly accelerated and fuel saved.

A safety-valve may, it' desired, be applied to the cover of the vessel E, to prevent explosion, if the pressure within should become too strong.

The apparatus is entirely smokeless, and needs no further attention if once properly started.

I claim as my invention- 1. In a portable cooking apparatus, the combnation of the outer box B, which carries the inwardly-projecting brackets d, with the cover `D, all arranged to Support and embrace the lamp U with the boX B, brackets d, cover D7` frame F, and culinary Vessel E, all arranged Substantially as herein shown and described.
