AQUATIC AIUSEIENT DEVICE Filed July 9, 1930 relation thereto;
ensured ret. 24, 1931 caries JOHN CHESNUT, OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, ASSIGNR `OlNF-'JIH113.1) CHARLES J. ONEILL, OF WASIHI[1\TG[0I\`I'7 DISTRICT 0F "COLUMBIA AQUATIC AMUsnMnn'r pnvrcn Application Vfiled July 9,
The invention relates to an aquatic amusement `device adapted to beassociated with an annular float, such as an inflatable annulus of rubber, to support an occupant in sit- 5 ting position in the water, and comprises a rigid open frame, preferably boat-shaped in outline, having a seatsuspended therein to be straddled by the occupant, and means for att-aching the frame to the float in spanning Y The invention is illustrated in theaccompanying drawings, in which s Fig. l is a plan view of the device as applied to 'an annular float.
I i Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2of Fig. 1,
with the float omitted.
Referring to the drawings, which illustrate the preferred embodiment of the device, l, l
indicate the side members of an open frame,
which members consist of outwardly bowed` strips of wood or thelike conforming generally to the gunwales of a boat, which strips are connected at front and rear by cross braces or bridge pieces 2an'd 3, respectively, which complete the general boat-like contour of the frame. l Vhile the contour of the open frame is generally that of a bateau,
` it will be understood that it may be given any other suitable or desired configuration,
as, for example, with both ends pointed like `a canoe or both ends flattened like a punt.
Preferably, the open frame is provided with a centrally disposed cross frame comprising transverse bars 4 secured to the side strips l by suitable fastening devices and longitudinal bars 5 interposed between the cross bars 4, said cross frame not only serving to strengthen the frame, but also constituting a guardfor the occupant, particularly when the latter is a small child.
Suspended within the frame, and preferably attached to the cross bars l by flexible strips 7 and 8, is a seat 6 substantially saddleshaped and adapted to be straddled by the occupant, who will be supported in upright position with the legs and the lower part of the body submerged and the upper part of the body` surrounded by the intermediate cross frame, the arms and legs being free.
Secured to the fore and aft sections of 1930.` serial No. 466,831.
the frame are flexible straps 10, preferablyV provided with the usual buckles, by means of which the device fmay be secured to an annular float, such, for example, as an inner tube of a pneumatic tire, an inflatable rubber annular type of life preserver, or an open ring or frame of cork or other buoyant material. The frame is made of sufficient length tospan the annular float and issecured t0 the latter by passing the ends of the strap around the body of the float and connecting thestrap ends by a buckle, whereby the frame will be securely attached to the float. When not in use, the device may be quickly detached from the float and, if thelatter is of the pneumatic type, it may be deflated softhat both `the device and the float associated therewith maybe packed in a relatively small space.
As indicated, the device is designed to be made separate from the float and be associated with the latter, when in use. When applied to the float and occupied by a child, the latter will be safely supported inthe water with complete freedom of movement l straps for securing the frame in spanning relation to an annular float. p 8. An aquatic amusement device, comprising a. rigid boat-haped open frame including bowed side members and cross braces at the front and rear, a seat suspended` from and within the frame, and means for securing the frame in spanning relation to an annular float. a. An aquatic amusement device, compris- `ing a rigid boat-shaped open iframe including bowed side members and cross braces at the front and rear, a seat, flexible strips suspending sald seat from and withm said frame, and straps for securing the frame in spanning relation'to an annular ioat.
5. An aquatic amusement device, comprising a rigid open frame including side strips, cross braces at the front and rear and intel1- mediate cross bars, a seat suspended from said cross bars in pendant relation Within the frame, and means for securing the frame in spanning relation to an annular float.
f6. An aquatic amusement device, Comprising,` a rigid open Vframe including side strips,
crossbraces at the font and rear rand inten mediate cross bars, a seat, eXible strips fof suspending ltlie seat from said-*cross bars, and means for securing the frame 1n spanningy relation to an annular'oat. Y* l n testimony whereof I ax my signature.
