being so attached may be shipped or trans ported in assembled condition for application to the radiator shellof an automobile.
It is also an object of this invention to pro vide a device of this kind in which the parts are simple and may be readily assembled,
.and when so assembled may be taken apart for the replacement of old orunused parts.
For the purpose of illustration there is shown in the accompanying drawings a preferred embodiment of this invention.

Figure 1 is a face view of a name plate of a form such as that now generally used on a certain type of cars.
Figure 2 is a side view of the same plate, showing the attaching means aflixed thereto.

There is shown in Figure 1 a name plate 1, such as is used in connection with this invention. To this name plate the lockingmeans is attached by means of solder or some other convenient means. p
The locking means is located to one side of the longitudinal axis of the name plate. The lockingmember as a whole is designated by the numeral 2,-which is cup shape with a rather flaringjopen mouth. The bottom of the cup member is the part that is directly united to the name plate. The outer edge of the cup extends outwardly in the form of a flange 8, which is directed somewhat doWnwardlyand provides a resilient flange means for attaching the plate to the radiator shell of an automobile. This cup device is shown in Figure 4, somewhat enlarged. The point at which the cup is united by solder to the name plate is indicated by the numeral l.
The diametrically opposite sides of the walls of the cup are slit to form lugs 5. These slits are fully shown in Figure at, by the reference character 5'. It is by means of these lugs that the name plateis united to the oval or ornamental plate, shown in Figure 3. The ornamental plate 6 a has formed therein a depression, or seat 7 of the same shape and size as that of the name plate and of substantially the same depth. The name plate is received in this depression and held therein by means of the locking device.
In the center of this depression, in the oval plate, there is formed an opening, one side of which is substantially semicircular in shape, indicated by the numeral 8, of substantially the same diameter as that of the flange of the locking device, while the other part of the opening, indicated by the numeral 9, is smaller and substantially semicircular in shape, having a diameter substantially equal to that of the bottom of the cup.
The opening 8 is sufliciently large to accommodate the flange 3 of the cup so that it may be made to extend through the opening, and after being placed therein the locking means is moved so as to bring the lower part of the cup part into engagement with the circular part of the opening, indicated by the numeral 9. When in this position the lugs 5 engage the side of the opening and hold the name plate in firm engagement with the oval or ornamental plate. m
When the name plate is first assembled with the locking device it is similar to that shown in Figure 2. In Figure 3 there is shown the oval plate in a condition for the application of the name plate and the locking mean-s to it. In order toapply the name plate to the oval plate the flange part of the cup is extended through the larger part of the opening in the oval plate, in such a way that it will entirely pass through and engage the opposite side of the oval plate. W hen in this position the name plate is adjusted so that the plate will suitably fit within the depression 7 and the lugs are forced into the narrow part of the opening and thereafter the name plate is seated within the depression 7 mentalor oval plate, together with the name plate, areforced into; engagement with the radiator shell. The radiator-shell is. inclicated bythe-numeral l0,gand has formed therein a, recessor depression 11 of the same shape and sizeas thatofthe'oval or ornamental plate. 7
In thecenter of the oval depression there is formed an opening, whichis a punched and drawn-out hole, indicated by the inuneral 12. Around thishole is. a'flange 13. The
opening in thisradiator shell 10 is just sur"- ficient toreceive the flange part3 of the locking device and to ,holditii'n secure and tight relation thereto ;'in.fa.ct, the parts arepressed together and on account of the resiliency of the, flange the flange somewhat yieldsand bends, and rigidly and fricjtionally engages the flanges 13 of the opening 12.
Since any pressure; to force the locking means into the opening 12 tends to'cup the flange 3, any -reverse..=action .would tend to straighten out thiscupand to cause the edges of theflange 3 to bite into the side otthe flange 133and securely hold the'parts in assembled relation, making itpalmost 1 impose sibleto accidentally. remove the partsiafter they have becomeassembled in the radiator shell. However, before they are, assembled that in the 'final assembling of the plates on a radiator shell the locking means holdsxthe name plate to the radiator :shell and that it holds the ornamental or oval plate.

In combination with a radiator shell, a name plate and an ornamental plate, locking means attached to the name plate and adapt ed to engage the ornamental plate and the radiator shell to hold them in assembled relation to each other.
3. Incombin'ation with a radiator shell, a name plate having-a plurality of locking means thereon, an ornamental plate having a depression therein to receivethe name plate,
and an opening therein, said opening removably receiving the locking means and the Wall of said opening being engaged byone of said means to hold the name plate with the ornamental plate, the other of said lockingmeans adapted to engage the radiator shell to hold giedtwo plates and the, radiator shell-asseml. In combination with a supporting member, a name plate, a second plate, a cupshaped locking member on said name plate having a means to engage and hold said second plate to the name plate, and a second means to engage the supporting member to hold, and support both of said plates.
5. In combination with asupporting inember havlng a hole therem, a nameplate, a
second plate, a cup-shaped locking member on said name plate having studsnthereon to engage and hold said second plateto the name plate, and a second means to engage in the hole of said supporting member to hold and support both of said plates.
6. In combination with a supporting member having a flanged hole therein, a plate having a hole therein, a second plate, anda cupshaped locking means on said second plate having lugs to engage and hold said first plate and a resilient flange to engage the flange of said supporting member to hold and support both of said plates.
. 7. In combination with a supporting member,.a plate having a hole therein, a second plate, and a cup-shaped locking member on said second plate adapted to engage the sides of said hole and said supporting member to hold the plates together'and support them.
8. In combination with a radiator shell having a-circularflange thereon, a plate having a hole thereing a second plate, anda lockmgmeans on saidsecond plate adapted to extend through the hole in the first plate, said locking means havin sides of said hole an a resilient ange to engage said circular flange whereby the plates are held together and supported by said shell.
9. In combination with a supporting member, an ornamental plate having ahole therein with two semi-circular parts on difierent radii, a name plate, and means on said name plate to pass through said hole and lock the plates to said supporting member, said means including a part just passing through the larger part of the hole to engage the supporting member, and a smaller part to engage the smaller part of said hole to lock the plates together.
10. In combination with a radiator shell having a hole therein, an ornamental plate 6 having a hole therein with parts of different size, a name plate, and locking means on said name plate, said locking means including a part just passing through the larger part of said ornamental plate hole to engage the hole in the shell to lock the plates to the shell, and a smaller part to engage the smaller part .of said hole to lock the nameplate to the ornamental plate.
