S'IGN- BRACKET Filed March 11. 1929 Patented Feb. 17, 1931 WILLIAM KEATH SUMME'RI-IAYES, qiiipor totxr vampxs setxy SIGN ninicnn'r This invention relates to improve'mentsin sign brackets, and has "for one of its principal objects the provision of a bracket for so positioning and displaying signs, placards, rc notices, pennants, advertisements, and the like af) 1to render them readily visible and notice- This application constitutes an improvement on applicants prior 7 patented device entitled Advertising devices dated September 25, 1928, N0.'1,685,102, and a further improvement on applicants pending application for patent on display brackets iled April 15,1927, Ser. No. 184,028.
One of the'important objects of this invention is to providein a display bracket or the like a simple unitary device which can be readily clamped about and supported upon an extension or projection of some sort such as a door handle or the like whereby a signal or sign may be conveniently and readily displayed. 7
Another and further important object of this invention is the provision in a sign 3.? bracket of means for displaying a signal particularly available to-motorists so that when any trouble is encountered or service required the user may simply attach a signal to the door of his automobile by means of this .bracket which signal will automatically in dicate to a passing serviceman that his attention is required upon the car displaying the said signal.
A still further and important object of this -invention is the provision of a signal displaying means particularly for motorists which is compact, readily available for use at all times, and which is so inexpensive that it can be distributed gratis by service organizations to motorists becoming members of such organizations or desiring to avail them selves of the facilities provided.
Other and further important objects of he invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings and following specification. V r
The invention, in a preferred form, is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.

outstanding arm is provided formed in channel shape but having the opening downwardly, and with its loweredges .32 bent upwardly and inwardly to provide a frictional m gripping element for a sign, placard, flag,
pennant or the'like 34. It will be further noted that an integral extension 36 of the arm 30 is provided, this extension being approximately semi-circular in form and curved downwardly so as to fitundera handle or conventional door knob --88' while at the 7 same time the ends 40 are shaped similarly 'to the ears 12 so as to surround and securely grip the shank42 'of the-knob 38. It will be evident that hereby is provided a V means for effectively displaying flags or pennants of cloth or similar material, thereby eliminating the placard feature, making the device slightly more compact, as the flag or 5 pennant may besimply wrapped around the 1 9O shank 30 when the apparatus is not in use. Further, the adaptation of the downwardly curved connecting element 36 renders the device capable'of a wider variety of uses. so It will be evident that herein is provided a sign bracket which is capable of many uses especially as an emergency signal formotorists requiring but an instant to attach and making it easy for the service man to locate a particular'car whether, on the street, in a parking field, or some other congested district. Further, it enables the user to proceed abouthis business with the assurance that the car will be promptly located and 4o-properly serviced, as instructions 'may be readily placed upon the bracket, either-directly upon thesignboard or pennant or upon a separate card or piece of paper also wedged into the channel. Again, it'permits 45 'theuser to wait in comfort for'services after having displayed the signal and eliminates the danger of bein'g run down while attempting to hail passing motorists or others for 50 I I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction ar ede m eh a d ran w th u 16- parting from the spirit of this inventiom and ,11 therefore do notpu'rpose limiting tl1e patent grantedhereonotherwise than .as necessitated" by the prior art and the appended claim.
