Description

Feb. 10, 1931. KRASNQFF 1,792,226
ARTIFICIAL DENTURE Filed Feb. 20, 1928 INVENTOR fierzzarg; KrQIInDo/ P ATTORNEYS Patented Feb. 10, 1931 PATENT oFFicE BERNARD KRASNOFF, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK ARTIFICIAL nmv'runn Application filed'February 20, 1928. Serial 170,255,801.
My invention relates to means for retaining artificial dentures, such as removable plates and bridge work, in place in the mouth, and the same has for its object more particularly to provide a simple, efiicient andcomfor-table device which serves to supplement the plate or bridge straddling'the gum or the anchorages thereof, or both, in retaining the same in place, and which readily permits of 1 the removal and insertion of the denture.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified which isattached to the plate and extends beyond the same in engagementwith the gum for retaining the plate in place.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified .in which the gum engaging extension or tongue conforms to the contour of the surface of the gum to effect a comfortable extended surface engagement therewith.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a device of the character specified in which the gum engaging extensions are adjustably attached to the plate to facilitate J the insertion and removal of the device 111120 and from the mouth.
Other objects will in part be obvious, and in part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, and in the combination, connectionand arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing one form of device constructed according to and embodying my said invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a detail view partly in section;
Fig. 4 is a rear view of the gum engaging extension or tongue;
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view thereof; on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 6 is a side view showing a modification; and
Fig. 7 is a sectional view thereof. Referring to the drawing, I have illustrated the denture as applied to the upper place comprises a pair ofextensions or gum A. The denture consists of the usual plate 12 straddling the gum and having the artificial teeth 14 set therein. a
- The means for retaining the=denture in tongues 18 which extend upwardly from the plate 12 and inwardly towards each other.
The tongues or extensions 18 conform in contour with the contour of the surface of the" gum with which they engage, and the sameare curved to extend over the bulging portion of the gum, as indicated atfl-B, into the hollow or recessed portion thereof, as indicated at C. The contour of the tongues 18- is obtained from the impressions taken of the jaw in the same manner that the contour-of-the plate 12 I "isobt'ained.
'As illustrated at Figs. 1 to 5, the plate12 is provided withrelatively thickened portions 20 having sockets '22 therein to receive the prongs 24 of the members 18. The gum engaging portions 20 are separate at the front to'expose the natural gum,t-he" lengthwise movable members 18 extending inwardly towards each other from the separated portions 75 20 and engaging the gum therebetween. The. pron'gs24: are preferably: slotted at the ends 26 thereof to provide ares ilient frictional engagement with their sockets '22 to permit of thesliding adjustment thereof."
At Figs.f6 and 7 therelatively thickened portions 20 are provided withslots orrecesses 28 in which the L-shaped prongs 30 of the members 18a are received, providing a close fit and a frictional sliding engagement. The angular ends of the prongs 30 lirnit the outward travel of the members 18a. A plate 32 secured by screws 34; serves to retain the members 18a in place with the prongsSO thereof within the slots or sockets '28.
When the members 18, 18a are partially pulled out of their sockets, the device canbe readily placed in the mouth and secured in position by pushing the members 18, 18a into their sockets to cause said members to firm 95 ly engage the gum.'"The device is" readily removed by partially 'pulling'out the said members 18, 18a'to release their engagement with the gum. r 7
the tongues 18, 18a, engaging over the ridge B of the gum and extending into the depression C thereof, securely retain the denture in place, exerting a gentle and evenly distributed pressure over the surface of the gum, and providing an efiicient holding device Whichmay be wornwith comfort, The, members 18,;l8h may ibe rea'dilyremoved and replaced as required. The subjectmatter of my invention disclosed herein and not claimed is disclosed and dlaime rl an eopending application Serial No. 255,800, filed February 20, 1928.
