My present invention relates to toy aeroplanes, and particularly resides in scoring and slitting as well as cutting a metal strip by a suitable stamp or die to produce a blank that is folded and bent upon itself to produce the body or fuselage, the landing gear, the wings and the rear elevators of the plane in a manner wherein all of these parts are reinforced and strengthened to provide a light but sturdy structure and wherein the rudder, when attached to the body further serves to strengthen the said body, as does the operating means for the propeller when attached to the body. i
To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

Figure 8 is a similar view of the rudder. Figure 9 is a similar view of the brace plate. The toy aeroplane is formed from a thin sheet of metal which while light embodies a determined strength. Any desired number of thin metal plates may be arranged one over t the other and subjected to the stamping action of dies to produce the body, wings, landing gear and elevators of the improvement. The body 1 is of stream line formation when shaped. The metal sheet comprising the body 1, adjacent the front and nose end thereof is formed with lateral extensions 2thatmerge into outer rounded ends 3 to provide the landing gear of the body. The rear'end of the body formed with the ele vators is cut to afford the same with a substantially V-shaped notch o and one of the edge walls provided by the notchhas an one tension in the nature of a bendable tongue 'Z. said slits being indicated by the numewil l0 and the slits 1O merge or communicatewith inwardly directed transverse slits 11. The body 1 is centrally provided with a score line 12, and outward thereof with score lines 13, respectively. The score line 12 is arranged in a line with the apex of the angle walls provided by the V-shaped notch 6 and the rear portions of the score lines 13 are disposed in close proximity to the end of the score line 12. The body is provided with other and outer score lines 1 1. The body has a transverse score line 15 that communicates with substantially rectangular slots 16 in the extensions 2, and inward of the rounded ends 3 on the said extensions.
The planes or wings 4 have central longitudinally extending score lines 17 which from points adjacent to their juncture with the body have outwardly extending angle branches or score lines 18 which terminate in inwardly directed angularly disposed short score lines 19 on the sides of the body.
The nose or front end 9 is bent right angularly in a line with the slits 11 and the body or fuselage is first bent on the score line 12-, then on the score lines 13 and thereafter on the score lines 14:. The hollow body is thus formed with a central pitched portion between the score lines 12 and 13, outwardly directed angle portions between the score lines 13 and 14 and straight depending extensions or sides between the score lines 14 and the outer edges of the body. The extensions 2 are now arranged at right angles with respect to the top of the body and thereafter the wings 4 are bent upon the score lines 17, while the portion of the wings surrounded by the score lines 18 and 19 are bulged outwardly to provide reinforcing ribs 20 between the wii'igs and the body. By reference to Figure 7 of the drawings it will be noted that the edges of the wings, adjacent to the extensions; 2, are formed with substantially V-shaped notches and that the said wings have outer longitudinal score lines 21. The portions of the wings between the score lines and the edges of the said wings, adjacent to said score lines, are bent or folded to reinforce and strengthen the said wings. The front or nose 9 has lateral extensions 23 which are bent over the sides of the fuselage for holding the front thereon.
The elevators are bent in a line with the outer edges and the slits 8 to arrange said elevators right-angularly with respect to the fuselage or body and sustain the said elevators in a plane with the wings 4.
The notches 16 in the extensions 2 of the landing gear receive therethrough bendable tongues Ql on the ends of a brace plate 25, the said tongues being bent over the said parts 2.
hen the device is thus folded the angle edges provided by the V-shaped notch will be brought next to each other, and these edges receive therebetween the inner edge of the rudder. The rudder is formed from a blank, as disclosed by Figure 8 of the drawings, the same being centrally bent upon itself to provide a two-ply member. The rudder 26 has its inner edge snugly overlying the angle tail end of the body and the same is provided upon its upper and inner end with extensions 27 that merge into bendable fingers 28 which pass through suitable notches in the central ribs of the elevators 5 and bent in opposite directions under the hollow body of the device. The rudder is centrally formed on its inner edge with a bendable tongue 29 that bent under the contacting edges of the walls provided by the notch 6.
In order to more effectively reinforce the body the same is provided with angle score lines 30 between the slits 11 and he forward angle ends of the score lines 14L and when the body is shaped as just described. the portions thereof provided between the score lines 30 and the score lines 14 are disposed in lapping relation as disclosed by Figure 5 of the drawings.
The front or nose end 9 of the body is centrally provided with an opening which is surrounded by an outwardly extendin bearing sleeve 31. The bearing sleeve has passed through its bore a wire member 82 preferably made up of two strands and which wire member is arranged around the central or hub portion of the toy propeller 33. The inner end of the wire member is provided with an eye on which arranged an elastic band 3-1, the second end of the band being engaged by a book which is secured between the top of the body and the rudder as best disclosed by Figure 3 of the drawings.
The propeller is turned to twist the elastic band 34 in the usual manner and after the band has been wound or twisted to a determined extent, pressure upon the propeller is released and the propeller will be revolved in the well known manner to propel the toy areoplane.
It will be noted from the foregoing description that I have provided a simple but thoroughly effective method and means for producing toy aeroplanes of a light but strong and sturdy structure and it is also thought that further detailed description will not be required.
Having described the invention, I claim 1. As an article of manufacture, a toy aeroplane cut from a thin metal strip which is scored and slitted and which is shaped. to provide a body or fuselage that has a top, angle portions extending from the top and depending sides and a front which is bent over the body and against the sides thereof, said body having extensions providing a landing gear. brace means connecting the extensions, said body having its edges formed with additional extensions bent angularly with respect to the body and constituting wings and end elevators.
2. As an article of manufacture, a toy aeroplane cut from a thin metal strip which is scored and slitted and which is shaped to provide a body that has angle portions extending from the top and depending sides, and a front which is bent over the body and against the sides thereof, said body having extensions providing a landing gear, brace means connecting the extensions, said body having its edges formed with additional extensions which are bent angularly with respect to the body to provide the body with wings and end elevators, and said wings having one of their edges rolled, their central portions bent angularly and their inner portions, in a line with the center thereof. bulged outwardly to their connection with the body to afford reinforcing ribs, the body, from the rear end thereof, being formed with a V- shaped notch and one of the edges provided by the notch having a tongue which is bent over one of the sides of the body when the edges of the notched portion of said body are brought together and the elevators being slitted. inwardly from the ends of the said notched portion, a two-ply rudder in the contacting edges of the body provided by the V-shaped notch, said rudder having
