This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in spark plugs and the same has as its principle object the provision of means whereby the collection of carbon with in the usual skirt portion thereof is elimi nated.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a spark plug wherein the sparking points will always be maintained clean.
These and other important objects and advantages of the invention -will become more apparent to the reader after considering the invention as described and claimed hereinafter.

Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it will be seen that the novel spark plug includes a dielectric body 5, which tapers toward its upper end and which is provided with a longitudinal bore for receiving the positive electrode 6.
This electrode extends through the upper end of the body 5 and connects to the threaded projection 7, which serves as a binding post when the knurled nut 8 is engaged thereon. The high tension wire of the ignition system is obviously connected to this binding post.
The lower portion of the body is constructed to provide a shoulder 9 which is adapted for disposition within the cavity 10 of the spark plug shell 11. This shell is internally thread-ed at the said cavity 10 for the reception of the threaded portion of a ja-mbnut 12. It will be observed that suitable packing is placed within the cavity, between the body 5 and the shell 11 and nut 12.
The shell 11 is provided with a depending cylindrical skirt 13 which is provided with external threads and which has a counterbore 14; for the reception of the conductor ring 15. This ring may be secured to the 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 represents a perspective view of 4 skirt in any suitable manner, as by spotwelding, sweating, or the like.
Extending from the lower end of the electrode 6 is an enlarged continuation thereof denoted by numeral 16, the same being provided at lower end with a head 17. A conical shaped body 18 of some suitable current conductive material is slidably disposed on the shank 16 and normally rests upon the head 17. A compressible spring 19 is convoluted on the shank 16 and is interposed 1 between the inner end of the body 5 and the apex portion of the body 18.
The body 18 is thus tensionally against the head 17 and in normal relation with respect to the ring 15. I
When the spark plug is energized, the spark will ump from the body 18 to the ring 15 and as the explosion takes place, 18 is forced upwardly so as to seat against the ring 15, thus preventing any carbon particles from collecting within the skirt 13. As the power of the explosion dissipates, the body 18 will return to its position upon the head 17.
Changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to in the construction of this novel spark plug without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed I hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In a spark plug, a shell, a positive electrode disposed through the shell, a body slidable on the lower portion of the electrode and adapted to seat against the lower end of the shell, and means on the lower end of the eleitrode upon which the body may normally res 2.
