My invention relates to the hair waving art and consists in a novel heater clamping means to be used in conjunction with a curling and clamping device similar to that -described in my co-pending applicatlon, Serlal N o. 386,006, filed August 15, 1929, patented Oct. 21, 1930, No. 1,778,870. i
j The main object of my invention 1s t o provide an improved spring clamping device for a heater such as the kind used in permanent waving.
Another object is to provide means to prevent the pulling ofthe customers hair due to tilting of the curler when clamped 1n operative position.
Another object is to provide means for securely holding the electric cord plug in operative connection with'the heater.
These and other objects are attained in the `0 device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a heater with my spring clamp applied thereto. j

Figure 4 is a horizontal section taken on line 4 4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the iigures, the heater member 1,0 has a body portion including a semi-cylindrical shell 1 of metal, housing the heating unit, and a block 2 of insulating material mounted in the middle of the convex surface of the heater. Terminal prongs 19 project from block 2 for insertion into plug 3. The upper ends of two fiat springs 7 are secured by screws 8 to opposite sides of block 2. These springs extend downwardly, following the curve of the heater surface. Clamping arms 6 are secured to the lower ends of springs 7 by rivets 9 and are provided with depressions 10 to receive the lower ends of the springs. The arms curve under the bottom of the heater to form jaws 11 for engaging a strand of hair. The jaws-are disposed slightly below the lowest .extremity of the heater and they may pivot upon rivets 9 to allow the heater to tilt slightly upon its transverse axis 5o to accommodate uneven thicknesses of the strand of hair gripped 'between the jaws and wrapped around the curling rod.
Buttons 21 are secured. to the upper ends of the clamping arms by means of rivets 5 which pass Athrough the button bases and hemispherical depressions 12 in the arms which space the buttons from the remainder of the arms. The button includes a hollow cup 13 of insu lating material, a rubber cushion 14 seated therein, and felt pad 15 glued to the rubber cushion. The felt and rubber units are easily replaceable. Cup 13 is provided with holes 16 and a shoulder 17 which serve to hold the rubber cushion in place after it is pressed into the shell. One of these holes is large enough to receive a screw driver for driving screw 8 into block 2. Spring clip 7 is similarfront of the screw head for ly perforated in the same reason.
Arms 6 are provided with inwardly extending lugs 18 engaging the lower portion of insulated block 2.' When buttons 21 are squeezed together, arms 6 pivot around these lugs causing the jaws to open suiicient for insertion or removal of the curlingdevice. Lugs 18 have rounded engaging faces and are freely slidable on the heater surface when the arms are vrotated about rivets 9.
The curler and clamp vshown are described in the above mentioned application and form no part of the plresent invention. The clamping arms in t e resent device are shorter than those in the above mentioned co-pending application and this feature together with the use of pivoting lugs 18 shortens the leverage i which tends to produce a pull in the customers hair' when the Ijaws are opened.
A coiled spring 4 is hooked at each end around rivets 5 .and passedl over the top of plug 3 and serves to hold the plug firmly in contact with`prongs 19 in block 2.
Certain details of construction may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention and I contemplate the exclusive use of all such variations as come within the scope of my claims.
I claim:
1. In a hair waving device, a heater member including a terminal block mounted on said block near thetop thereof spring clips jecting above said arms,
on the lower portions of said clips with clamping jaws projecting therefrom and having inwardly extending lugs abovel said jaws engaging the outer surface of said block and forming pivots aboutwhich said arms may rock to open said jaws.`
2. In a hair waving device, a metallic heater with an insulating-block mounted thereon, spring clips mounted on said block near the top thereof and diverging downwardly and outwardly from said block, and holding arms mounted on the lower portions of said j clips and having inwardly extending lugs engaging the outer surface of said block and forming pivots about which said arms may rock.
3. In a hair-waving device, a heater com-' prising an arcuate shell with an insulating block mounted on the center of the convex portion thereof, spring clips mounted near the'top of said block and diverging downwardly and outwardly from said block, clamping arms mounted on theI lower portions of said clips with upwardly extendingclamping handles and having inwardly ex-v tending lugs engaging the surface of saidblock near the bottom thereofV and forming pivots about which said armsmay rock to spread apart or draw together the jaws, and insulated buttons mounted on the upper ends of said handles for manual manipulation of the device.
4. In a hair waving device, a heater having an insulating block mounted on the surface thereof and provided with terminal prongs, a cord plug adapted to be applied to said block and to receive said prongs, and means for holding said plug and block together comprising a coiled spring attached at each end to said heater and extending over lsaid plug.
5. In a hair waving device, a heater with an insulating block attached thereto, clamping arms attached to said block by spring. clips and extending below said heater to.
a lcurrent conductor plug pro-` and means for holding said conductor plug in operative connection with said heater block comprising a coiled spring .fastened at each end to one of said arms and extending across the -top of said conductor plug.
6. In a hair waving device, a heater mem- 'ber having means of attaching an electricity conductor thereto, a spring clip mounted on said heater near its top and a clamping arm pivotally mounted on the lower .portion of said clip by means of a rivet.
7 In a hair waving device, a heater member comprising an arcuate outer shell enclosing a heating unit and means for connecting mounted on said heater near its top, and a form jaws,
a source of current thereto, a spring clip clamping jaw pivotally mounted on the lower portion of said clip and having inwardly projecting lugs slidably engaging said heater surface.
8. In a hair waving.device,.a heater with a block of insulating material mounted thereon, a spring clip attached at one end to said block, and a clamping arm mounted on said spring clip at its lower end, said arm having a recess therein for reception o f said spring clip .whereby said clip and arm may be held against relative movement by a single rivet.
9. In a hair waving device, a heater ele'- -ment having a block of insulating material mounted thereon, spring clips mounted on said block near its top, and clamping arms.-

12. In-a hair waving device`,.a heater' member, a terminal block mounted on its upper portion, clamping. arms yieldingly attachedto said block and having pivot lugs engaging -the outer surfaceof said heater, and
manual pressure buttons mounted on said arms, each button comprising an outer cup portion and a'replaceable inner cushion and heat insulating portion.
13. In a hair waving device, a heater element with a terminal block mounted there- Y on, spring clips mounted on said block, and
clamping arms mounted on said spring clips, said arms having lugs extending linwardly and slidably engaging said block, the upper ends of'said arms forming handles whereby the arms may be tilted on said block about said lugs as pivots.
