My invention relates to an improved means in horizontal coke ovens for withdrawing and leading gaseous productsof distillation from the interior of the oven outwards, and the e main object aimed to is to replace and simplify in av most advantageousv manner the means hitherto used therefor.
One essential'feature of the invention consists in an arrangement in horizontal coke' le ovens'for withdrawing the gaseous 'products of distillation directly from the ovencharge adjacent to the doors through oneor both of the doors which close the ends of th-e ovens. The passagevh, which is now open, ispreferably covered during the discharge ofthe colte by a plate placed at 'I0 the level of the sole of the chamber; (Not shown); This `covering would be unnecessary if the valve m were so constructed and arranged that in the closed condition it forms a continuation of the sole of the oven chamber. After thesepreliminar'yj measures the coke c can be discharged without hindrance from that side of Vthe'oven chamber since the conduit 7c is at a lower level than the solo sof the'oven chamber a. f, '-The arrangement can be employed for one only or for both oven chamber doors. If only one door is provided it is advisable` to select that sideof the chamber where the coke discharging machine is placed, because then e the building and accessibility of the conduit 7c is facilitated and the temporary covering of the passage at the level of the-chamber sole during the discharge 'is unnecessary.'

The advantages of the arrangement construction and inthe convenience of carrying out the working. The usual .gas collecting apparatus arranged on thertop of the oven and the space required therefor'are entirely omitted. The bottom conduit, serving to replace these, can be very easily vapplied, more particularly in existing oven of distillation from said chamber, and va communicating connection between -said hollow space and said means.
