Description

20, 1931. 1. v. GOODMAN TOY TABLE Filed March 14, 1929 2 Shanta-Shut 1 i M l? N grwmkoa I VTGwJ an Patented Jan. 20,- 1931 IRA v, GOODMAN, or Amoonii, r'ENnsYLvANI TOY TABLE? 1 i Application filed March 14, 1929'; serial 34 ,137;
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys, and particularly to toys which are mounted on tables.
One object of the invention is to provide table of such construction that the scope of the toy may be enlarged or reduced, by the addition or removal of sections of the table.
V the purpose of producing compactness, and
Another object is to provide a toy of'this character wherein the sections are provided with novel means for connecting them to each other, and for supporting them on the table.
Another object is to provide each section with supporting legs which are adapted to be folded over on one face of said section, for
for protecting the devices mounted on the section. 1 I
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a toy table made in accordance with the present invention. Y
a Figure 2 is a side'elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the table.
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line H of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary plan view showing the three legs, at the end of the table, en
' gaged with the locking member 20.
Figure 6 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line 66 of Figure 1.
Figure? is a bottom fied form of the table.
' Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 and 11 represent the semicircular top boards of the end sections 12 and 13, of the table. Hinged to each side of each of the sections 12 and 13 is a supporting leg member 14, which includes the legs 15, the upper transverse connecting member, and the laterally extending flange 16,-this latter portion being hinged to the table section, as clearly seen in the drawings. The center of the curved portion of each of the sections 12 and 13 is also provided with a leg member 17, of the same construction as plan view of a inodi that just described. Secured to the upper face of each of said sections is a post 18, and
mounted on the upper end of said post, by means of the vertical pivot 19, is a threearmed lockingnmmber 20. When the two side 1e 'members are folded over their-legs straddle the two diametrically opposite arms of the member 20, while the legs of the'end leg member straddle theother arm of said member The operator then rotates the member 20-into a position wherein saidarms overlie the legs, whereby to hold the leg'members in their folded'p'ositions. Disposed between the end sections 12 and 13 are the rectangular sections 21each having a leg member 22 se cured to each end, in a'manner similar to that described in connection with the members 17, and carriedby the upper face of each of these sections is a; post23, having a pivoted locking member 2 1, for holding the leg members of such sections, when folded, as hereinbefore described. 1 I
' Pivotallyinounted oneach endportion of one of the'long sides ofeach section 21 is a hook 25 and in the other long edge of each section is an opening, each of said openings receiving thebillof a hook of an adjacent section,'when said sections are placed with their edges together, as shown in the draw-- ings. The straight edge portion of the section 13-is provided with similar'hooks" 26,
which engage openings 27', in the adjacent edge of the section abutting therewith, while the straight edge of the section 12 has openings receiving hook 28 carried bythe adjacent section 21, saidlop'eningsbeing designated by the numeral 29; By thismeans all of the sections are held in proper position with relation to each other, While the leg members support the sections at the proper per faces of the table sections are sections 30 height from the floor. Mounted on the upof a railway system, the end sections 12 and i 13 carrying the end curves 31 of the tracks.
The system may be either mechanical or electric, as desired, and provisionis made for the properconnection between the rail sections to carry the current. Other parts of the system, as the powerhouse32, signals- 33, a bridge 34, a tunnel 35, a station 3 6, and
provided for the other elements which will render the system realistic.
The legs of the table will be of such length as to support the table at a height above the floor so that a child may sit on the floor and reach the various parts of the system.
As shown in Figure 7, the modification comprises end sect-ions 36, and connected to a sald sections, and extending therebetweemh are the slidably connected bars 37, on which the intermediate table top sections- 38- are--- supported, each of such sections havingwon its upper face, portions of a toy railway'svs tem', similar to those shownin the other form a of the invention. By sliding the sections 36 toward-and away from each oth'er,1ro'om is desired number of sec-,
tions38; i a a What is claimed is: a 1
.1 A ztoy table including detachably connected sections each having a top, means forsupporting each of said sections includingleg me'mbers-movably connected to the lower face of the individual section and foldable onto the upper face ofa-said top, and means on the upper face of the top ofeach of saidsections for holding said leg members of the section invfolded position thereon.
2. A- toy table including'a pluralitylof detachably connected sections each having a top, legswhinged to the lower face of the top of each section and arranged to extend at right angles therefrom, at times,; to support thesection, and to be swung onto the upper face of said top at-times, posts on theupper face of the top of the section'- arranged to be straddled by said legs when so swung, aand lockingmeans on the .postsfor holding the legs in folded position. a
3. A'toy table including a :pluralitygof detachably connected sections, legs movably connected to each of the sections and comprising L-shaped memberseach having a portion arranged to lie in contact with-the lower face of the section in supporting relation thereto, said L-shaped members being adapted to be swung onto the upper, face of the section, aposton said upper face, and arotary locking. member carried by the post engagement'with the legs.
In'testimony whereof, I affix my signature. a
