IMPROVEMENT IN WELL AND VClvSTE-RN TCPS.

To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN M. BULL, of Sidney, in the county of Shelby and inthe State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Well and Oistern Top, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a top view of my improved well and and cis-tern top 5 Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same on line cv c, Fig. l, show-v ing sediment-pot at bottom of cistern, and Fig. 3 a top View of the pot.

My invention relates to improvements in wells and cisterns, by which they may be fully protected, the pump easily taken yout and repaired, and the`cistern or well readilycleaued.
The invention consists of a platform with hinged door and recess for pump arranged at the top part of a sediment-collecting pot at the bottom of the cistern or well.
In the drawing, A represents a platform for wells or cisterns, which is made of iron, wood, or other material. The platform is provided with a door, B, of suitable size, that is hinged to the platform, and is raised and lowered by a handle-ring.- By opening the door, sufficient light is thrown into the well to admit the taking out of the pump, and making repairs. A recess in one corner of the door, and in the adjoining part of the platform forms a hole, C, for the pump, and allows the taking out of the same when the door is opened.
When the door is closed, the pump istightly held in position, in connection with an angular guard rod or plate, D, extending below the recessed corner of the door, which guardpiece is attached to they platform, and may be removed for taking out the pump. The tight tting of the door to the platform, and of the platform and door to the pump, excludes any impure substances, rats, or other objects from the well, and admits the repairing ofthe same without removing the platform. A pot, E, of semicircular shape, is placed at the bottom of the Well. It has a central hole, which maybe opened when the oistern is to be repaired, the v Water that rises inthe pot being dipped or pumped out. The hole is plugged when the repairs are finished. The pump stands by means of bottom spikes in the pot, and pumps out, by quick strokes of the handle, all the sediment collecting in the cistern, so as to keep vthe same clean.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
