Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. DU'IEMPLE,

. l of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Studs or Buttons; and I do hereby declare that the followingi's a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, formingav part of this specitication.

vMy invention vconsists `in the improvement of shirt buttons or studs, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective View, with portion ot' back removed, ot' a studor button constructed according to my improvement. Fig. 2 is the front and post. Fig. 3 is the back and sec-V tion. Fig. 4 is a plan ot' front. Fig. 5 is a planet' back. Fig. 6 ijs un enlarged section 0n lines :1; zr, showing post D locked. Fig. 7 is a section on lines :c al', with the post D partially turned, in position for unlocking. Fig. 8 is the piece 0.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and -desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
