Description
L. LEWIS & N. T. BARNES.
, SAW-TABLE GUIDES. I 1'0.l'78,830, Patented J'une13,1876.
W w, jig/'1 J I I! TIll UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LARRY LEWIS AND NOBLE T. BARNES, OE OSWEGO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-TABLE GUIDES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,830, dated June 13,1876; application filed March 13, 1876. 2
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LARRY LEWIS and NOBLE T. BARNES, of the city and county of Oswego, and State of New York, have invented a-n Improvement in Saw-Table Guides, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention consists of the guide for the stuff to be sawed, provided with a lever for setting the guide at any desired distance from the saw, the lever being arranged conveniently to the hand of the attendant who feeds the stuff, and having a notched bar (in the shape of a quadrant) and latch attached to the lever for fastening it at any point, and also having an adjustable fulcrum, which can be shifted, so that the lever will set the guide for any required width or thickness of stuff; and the invention also consists of a right-angle and a bevel guide, so combined that the latter may be worked by the former, and may be readily adjusted to any required bevel, and may be readily shifted out of place, or disconnected and taken off when the other is required for use; and the invention also consists of a saddle (to which the right-angle guide is fastened) attached to the slide by two screws passing through slots in the saddle, by which the guide may be readily adjusted to a parallel line withthe saw.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the saw table and guide, taken on line .00 a; of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 2, on line 3 3 Fig. etis a section on line 2 z, and Fig. 5 is a detail showing the stop-latch of the adjusting-lever.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the saw-table; B, the saw; 0, the rightangle guide; D, the bevel-guide; E, slide for working the guide to and from the saw; F, groove in which the slide works to guide it, and cause the guides CD to work parallel to the saw. G is the lever for working the guides H, the adjustable fulcrum of the lever;
it may be disconnected and taken off by taking thumb screw rod out of right angle guide,
when the right-angle guide is required for use.- I The thumb screw clamps the plates up tight guide is fastened) attached to the slide by two I screws passing through slots in the saddle, by which screws and slots the guide is readily adjusted on a parallel line with the saw.
Having thus described our invention, We-
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the laterally and vertically adjustable guide D, slotted saddle 0, guide E, with the lever Gr, pivoted to an adjustable fulcrum, H, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the lever G and adjustable fulcrum-block, H,of the segmental rack I and the weighted latch J, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination, with the guide D, slotted saddle O, and guide E, of the lever G, adjustable fulcrum-block H, and a link connecting the lever to the guide, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
