Description

Jan 6, 1931.. F. KLATT 1,787,867
THREABER Filed April 9, 1929 lm/manto@ Ema if Patented dan.` 6, 1931 tiene? ENT lori-fics f JOSEPH r. KLATT, or PORTLAND, OREGONv rnnnannn' y ,Appneati'on meanprn 9, 192e.
This invention relates tor sewing accessories and pertains particularly te an improved needlethreading device. y
The primary object of the present invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device for facilitating the threading of a needle.
Another :object of the invention is to provide aineans whereby the thread may be con veniently nioistened to be rolled into a point for the purpose of facilitating the extension of the point through the eye of a needle,
While the present device may comprise a unit independent of other sewing accessories it is designed primarily to forni a part of the sewing kit set forth in detail in my co-p'ending application No. 353,731, filed April 9th, 1929. u Y
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection withpthe accompanying drawing forminga part of the present invention with the understanding, however, that the invention is not coniined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may bechanged or modified so long as such changes or modifications marl: no material departure from'the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing f Figure 1 shows'the device embodying the present invention, iny side elevation and y jmountedy upon theupper end of the casing of the above referred to sewing outfit.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substan tially upon the line 2-2 of Figure 1. p
Figure 3 isa top plan view partly in section of the structure shown in Figures l1V and Figure l is a sectional View taken upon the line 4 4 of Figure 3. Y 4, 'e
Referring to the drawing in detail thenu-j, nieral 1 indicates generally a base for a needle threading device, the same being'v here shown in the form of aca "having extendine downwardly therefrom the internal threading serial no. 353,732. Y y outfit, aportion of which casing is indicated hy `the numeral; 3.
\ Mounted `upon the top ofthe cap or Vloa-se Yof the needle threader, extending transversely and te one'sifde` .of the center thereof, is ay double walled structure lopen at each end as shown and covered across the top as indicated at Packed between the sides of the double Walled structure isa suitable material 6, such as cotton,.hair or the like, intowhich needles or pins may beextended. Formed transversely through the structured, throughV each side thereofare the openings'; and mounted upon the haseV 1 `at theopposite side thereof isa post 8 having :a passage 9 -formed there,-y through, the longitudinal axis ofY whicliis inV alignment with the center ofthe openings 7.L This side. ofthe post remote from .theV struc'- ture l isprovidedwith a transverse recess 10 which'extends thereacross at the outer end of the Ypassage 9 in the manner shown.
, Forine'dacross they top of thepost Sis a pair of grooves 11 the end edges of which fare sharpened to provide ,a thread cutter.
interposed between the double `walled structure vel' andthe post 8 is a casing or post 12, thetop 13 ofv which is provided with a pair of apertures 14 and within the `post 1 a pairof Sponges 15 is placed, each being eX- posed through oneof the `openings 14 in the manner shown. y ,e Y v In the use vof the needle threading device, a needle is firstinsertedthrough thepassage- 9 toward'the opening 7 in the structure l and n the point. is passed into the filling of the structure luntil the eye of the needle is po- Vsitioned in the recess 10 of the post in the manner shown in Figure 4. rEhe` endof the thread which is tonbe attached to the needle may thenbernoistened upon the exposedportion ofen@ of the Sponges 15 to facilitate the forming ofthe same int-ova point, and the pointed end thereof is then passed along the n recess or groove 10 by. which it `will beV guided V throughthe eye of the needle. A needle 16 c is shown in position in Figure fl.
Having thus described my invention, what lffclaim ist- 1 y n i 1. Aneedle 'threader comprising a` base,v a postcarried bythe base having an aperture ICO Y the post. A
2.In combination in a needle .threa ;ler,a` base, a post carried by the base and having aV iormedrtransversely therethrough and a re! cess formed transversely of one end of the aperture, and means associated With the post for supporting one end of aneedle positionedA in the passage, said supporting means being mounted on the needle receiving passage therethrough and a thread guide groove formed transversely of one end of the passage, and an upright member .carried by the base having an aperture in alignment with said passage 4and designed to receive the end of a needle lying inthe passage. Y l 1 3.V In combination in a needle threader, a
base, a. post carried by the base vand having i a needle receiving passage therethrough and fa thread guide groove formed transversely of c one end ot the passage, an Yuprightrmember Y K Carried'by the base having .an aperture in alignment With said passage and designed to receive the endlof a needle lying 1n the passage, and a thread moistener device carried by the base.
4L. A'needle threader comprising a base, a
' holl'ovv Walled structure carried by the base Vand having a passage formed transversely therethrough, a soft illingmaterial in said structure exposed through said passage, a`
post mounted upon the baseon one side of 'Y the Wall and having a. needle receiving pas- Y sage Jformed therethrough in alignment With said VVWallpassage, and a recess formed transversely thereof at the side remote from-the Wall and-across the adjacent end'of the needle receiving passage.
